Confused about my Panel Liner
Posted by Allessio77 on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 4:03 PM

I used Vallejo Model Air paints for my airplane, then put a coat of Micro Gloss (acrylic I think). Just got done affixing decals and want to use Tamiya Panel Liner. Will this work on this finish, and how do I clean it up? (I did a little test and tried to clean it with Tamiya X-20A, but it left the area a little funky and the Panel Liner was not removed very well)

Thanks

For Tamiya panel line formulas, you need to use paint thinner or mineral spirits to remove the excess. X-20A will act as a solvent for your acrylic clear coat, potentially eating it away and defeating the purpose.

What is Tamiya panel liner made of ? If it isn’t acrylic, then X-20 won’t remove it,however X-20 will surely remove your acrylic clear and your Vallejo Model air.

If Panel liner is enamel or lacquer, then you need an enamel or lacquer thinner to remove it.It will leave your acrylic gloss coat and base coat alone if they are fully cured and if it truly is acrylic,as you seem to be guessing.

cant think with your finishes, need to be certain.
