Photobucket begins charging for hosting

Hi Don,

When PB pulled their trick my thinking was that well, at the end the kind of service provided will come at some sort of cost.

1. Ad's

2. Subscription

3. Mapping of online behaviour (google)

What realy put me off with the PB big shutdown was the way their customers where taken hostages.
And you say now they do it one more time..

So I accepted that the service will come at a cost and decided to pay.

But never ever to PB.

I am on fotki and it works great, and cost is reasonable with my kind of usage:

130 GB at less then 20 $ / year.

The explanation is that it's a big site with a lot of members who have lots of high res photos, and it would take too much bandwidth. I get that.

Plus, with all the kvetching that goes on here about IT or lack of, support by FSM, do you really want that?

They really need to set this forum up so we can post our photos from our own computers.

 

Now that would be great. Scalemates offers that feature.

Yes,I started Postimage also,pretty simple to use,and free for now.

I use Fotki for $ 24.95 or something like that.

Easy to use, NO ads.

Photobucket offered a free account?

I knew that they had walked back from the $500-a-year hosting account and had added some cheaper alternatives, like they had before the disaster, but I didn't know they started offering a free account again.

I can't imagine that anyone who used Photobucket before they dropped free hosting the last time, went back to them.

 

 

I never stopped,I used to have ad free for .99 cents,but that stopped with the big fiasco.But I still have  reduced storage free account up till now.

 

I had the free account, till I used up the allotted space in 2015.  At that point, I sprang for what was the cheapest paid account, $49 a year.  When they dropped the free hosting, they continued the paid accounts to the end of 2017.  But the choice was to take the single remote-hosting account at $499 a year.  I have seen that in the meantime, Photobucket walked that all back and implemented a new collection of tiered accounts, but I still would never go back.  I switched to Postimage and let my Photobucket subscription lapse.  I'll never use Photobucket again.

Another fail from my perspective.  I assume their revenue comes from advertising based on the questionable site clients.  And with the plummeting cost of storage I just don't understand their business model.  I've been using imgur and if that goes south I'll host a site for all of us.  Price per TB is crazy cheap.  And bandwidth has become a commodity.

I got a message today from Photobucket that they will begin a subscription service for heavy users.  I am apparently a heavy user.  I went to a link in the message about signing up for the service, to see if it was reasonable.  However, the page was blurry, so you could not read the price.  The only way to find out the price is, apparently, to sign up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Why are you even still with Photobucket after the stunt they pulled on us a year or so ago? They’ve been charging for subscription since then. If I were you, dump them. Not worth it.

 

I started up with Postimage for my modeling shots,however all my old stuff is still with Photobucket,just build pics,nothing I really need.But the account was still FREE although they drastically reduced the amount of storage I had,but I was still able to post to forums.I guess with this new change that will end too,but no loss,I only used it for forum posting.So far Postimage has been simple to use.

The owners must be strapped for cash.  I use imgur.  Don't store anything there i don't already have a copy of. 

I wouldn't be surprised if I see the end of that business model and it becomes feasible for forums to host/store member's posts with photos.

I use Postimage and it’s free. I will never pay for subscription. 

Move away from PB as fast as you can.  They deserve to falter.  

I use ImageShack.  Its been easy to use, hassle free, and worth the $20 a year.  

Yep, I also use Imgur. Works great.

I think that I am on Imgur. Moved when Photobucket started wanting money. Very happy with them. No charge at all providing all my pictures are under a certain file size. Photoshop quite hallily sorts that out for me!

Avoid Photobucket like the plague. After the fiasco they pulled on us, I’ll never trust photobucket again. Screw them....

It does not bother me, since I don't post pictures.

If it's at all possible; download your files asap. I was able to last time. just before that got locked.

I'm very happy with Fotki.

I received the same email a few weeks ago. They are up to their old shenanigans again. Ah well, the reperieve was nice while it lasted.... the numbskulls in charge there are gonna chase away customers again.
