Stop It!

It's all about fun and relaxation for me and if I start to stress over a piece of plastic it's time to stop. There are just to many other things in life that cause stress and this hobby is what I use to forget all that garbage for a while.

Perfectionism is a beach, and I still haven't figured out whether building models is good or bad therapy for it!

I think your mindset is right, though. Just do it. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway.

Edit: Incidentally, your thread title made me think of the old Bob Newhart Saturday Night Live skit. I wonder did you have that in mind too?

Yeah, it's true - sometimes you can start going crazy, like when you try to build a detail with not enough references. Guessing how to do it right -But sometimes that hurts.

As for cleaning up that oleo strut, or other parts - real AMS starts when you discover that it's sometimes easier and faster to build a detail from scratch rather than trying to clean it up. Then again - since modelling IS fun, some extra work only means more of fun, doesn' it?

But if you're agonizing over a decision like "close up the hull now or later" or "use this or that paint" I have a trick for you that helps. Take a 15 minute nap (set up an alarm clock, it helps!) and think about it again after waking up. I think you will be surprised with the results!

Yes, sometimes I really do enjoy discarding a kit part and making my own better part.

And, yes, I have often taken a break when I start worrying about some problem, and find the answer comes later.

Ha, ya.  Just talking about this on another thread.  AMS drives you crazy.   I like where I'm at modelwise.  Heck I'll circle and zoom in on the mistakes for you.  I ain't fixing them... so long as the overall look suits me.  Decent paint, good decals,  overall good assembly but if I forget or dont feel like cleaning the seem on an oleo strut...not doing it.  Gotta keep it fun.
