The best method is 50:50 Tamiya X-22 : Tamiya Laquer Thinners.

I got this from LSP fourm, works perfectly, dries quickly and leaves a hard surface when fully cured.

In Progress
1/48 Tamiya P47-D Bubbletop
1/48 Hobby Boss TBF-1C Avenger (on hold)
Pending
1/48 Roden S.E.5a
1/48 Airfix Walrus

As suggested, I also go about 50/50 with just about any paint or clear and adjust from there. Best method is to experiment to see what works for you.

Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

Flying Dutchman - Three parts X-22 to one part thinner would be much too thick, compared to the way I do it. I start thinning at nearly nearly one part  thinner to one part X-22, about 40% thinner to 60% X-22. That gives me the ability to adjust it as I need, when I see how it sprays. I usually add more thinner, ending at whatever ratio sprays out the best.

Foto Frank said it well, one part thinner to one part X-22 will be a good ratio for you, give that a try and see. With a little testing of results, you'll see what ratio you like.

Flying Dutchman, I thin X-22 1/1 with Mr. Color self-leveling thinner, spraying around 12 to 14 lbs, usually two coats. I get a nice smooth finish this way. I used to thin 40/60 with self-leveling thinner but I wasn't getting the results I expected. One-to-one works good for my needs.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Hi, Dutch - By no means am I a real expert at gloss clear coats, but here is my method. I usually thin quite heavily, starting at about 40% X-20A and adjusting upward as needed. Medium needle on Badger AB, spraying at 15-18psi. Usual time between coats is about 10/15 minutes.

This does of course usually require a second coat, but I prefer that so I can avoid a rough, pebbly finish, important for decal application. Heavy thinning I think helps to put down some very level and smooth coats.

Hope that helps a little, good luck with it.

[/quote] So would that mean 3 part gloss to 1 part thinner?

Hi all,

What is the ratio of the Clear Gloss X-22 to X-20A thinner that you all use to airbrush?

Any tips on spraying this clear gloss too?
