Your dream model/diorama
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 5:28 PM
If you had the oppurtunity to make any diorama/model with all the costs paid for by someone else Tongue [:P] what would it be?

For me it would have to be a large dio thats 1/35 scale of D-Day i think. Maybe even all 5 beaches Big Smile [:D].

oh thats easy. dios of pearl harbor (ford island as the focus), hickham field, bellows field, and ewa field. the tough part would be the scale. my heart says 1/48 but logistically 1/700 would be the most successful.

If space and price was not an option it would be a toss up between Pearl Harbor and the Norfolk Naval Yard in 1/350

For me it would be a diorama detailing the actions of the PPCLI (Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry) during the Battle of Ortona, 1943. It would either be set in one of the assaults on "the Gully" or in the ruins of Ortona itself, both would make for really interesting subjects.

For a nonfiction diorama, I would like to do a dio of the fighting at either Kharkov or Kursk.
For a fiction build, I would like to build a dio of the Battle on Hoth or the space battle above Endor.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] or a Battle of Mobile Bay, or Battleship row at Pearl Harbor.

The wooden horse, with the whole POW camp in 1/35. kinda hard to show the tunnel though with the whole camp. I want to do a cross section of it sometime, though.

Maybe a battle scene between the Shannon and Chesapeak, or when the Vicotry was crossing the T at Trafalgar. All in 1/48 scale.

It would be a choice between 3; El Alamein, Normady or something from the Battle of Britain and in either 1/72 or 1/48.

It would be a german coast battery in Denmark by the name of Tirpitz. 4 15" guns, pillboxes, AAA, radar, everything in 1/35th scale. I have no idea how big it would be.

I would probably like an imaginary faceoff. If space were no limitation, I'd have one room with a faceoff between a few WWi models, then another table with WWII models, then onto the Cold War, and so on, to the modern era. All in 1/35 scale ofcourse. That'd be amazing. It'd probably fill a couple thousand square feet.

Neat question.

I'd love to do a WWI dogfight to 1/72 scale. The planes would be small enough, and the distances short enough, that I would probably only need one room in my house to stage the thing. Big Smile [:D]

I'd want a 1/350 scale Pearl Harbor, and a warehouse big enough to keep it in.

I thought of an amusing diorama, I would title it; "Sore Loser". It would be a diorama of a IPMS show, with rows of tables covered with tiny models and lots of people viewing the show. Then there would be a pickup truck in the parking lot outside, with a cable attached to the trailer hitch. The cable would run through an outside door of the building and be connected to several of the display tables, as they are being jerked into the air, models flying everywhere, people screaming, frantically trying to save their models! And then display this at an IPMS show. Tongue [:P] I wonder what it's chances of winning would be? Laugh [(-D]

But, unfortunatly (Disapprove [V]) it's not gonna happen, so my realistic dream would be a huge (about 30X30 feet or so in 1/35th) dio of a Normandy town on D-day with tons of tiger 1's and german troops and US airborne troopers and german infantry and...Tongue [:P].

My dream Model/Diorama is .....

Well its something I actually started on quite a while ago, though I didnt get much further than a start on it.....

It's a large scene from "When Trumpet's Fade" the HBO movie, I started on the base which was coming along rather nicely, the figures are what screwed me up since I feel like I have no talent painting figs...... but it is something I would like to do/complete even if it takes me the next 20 yrs.....

Mike(Renarts) did offer some good help and advice on the figures.....since it's been so long since I touched a paintbrush I might have to ask for help again. LOL
