Okay now.
This is for everyone who has done it. Wants to do it and Doesn't like to do it! What about clear models do you find scary? Is it the idea that the glue you use will fog the clear? Well, that's why I don't use Super Glue anywhere near clear parts.
Believe it or not. I have had phenominal luck with Tamiya glue in the Green label Bottle. I have found though that it has to be an unused bottle or one dedicated to clear parts only! I found if you use your regular bottle you will get some discolored crazing near the edge of the parts.
The fact is if the glue is contaminated in any way, this will happen. Mainly if you use it on other colors of plastic this happens. How? well, every time you touch that beautiful little pointed brush to join two pieces of plastic , it picks up just a micron or two of the colored plastic you're gluing. Eventually the glue gets contaminated by the different colors of plastic and other stuff like sanding dust you didn't see. Once in a while, look in the bottom of the bottle and you will see what I mean.
You can filter this out and do so with a plain old coffee filter and a clean and dry old bottle and brush.The brush will have to be cleaned too, remember. Okay, we got around the glue. Now how do you do it? Never put glue on in the middle of a piece. Always find a corner and let capillary action work for you.
Never ever squeeze the piece beyond what it takes to hold it together firmly and gently. Now remember, Do NOT! if you paint detail inside,Do NOT , let the paint get anywhere where the glue has to go! What will happen, is the glue will begin to lift the paint and it will result in a stain inside your clear part!
If you want to detail something, Say a frame or inner structure, then Make sure the join area is near the edge of the part, Not in the center! Otherwise you will have two ghostly lines on either side of your added part. If you need more info on using regular Tamiya glue on Clear, Message me . Tanker - Builder
