Hey guys, so I've heard the horror stories about Kitty Hawk kits, but based on a few reviews I've read, and the fact that I love the aesthetic of the Sokhoi birds, I've just started on their version of the SU-34 "Fullback" in 1/48 scale. If the first few steps are any indication of how the build will go, it will be a bit of work, and I need to pay close attention the entire way through the build, but it should still build up to be a nice kit in the end.
Anyways, I've looked all over the instructions, painting diagrams, box, etc., and have not been able to find whether or not the color callouts are referring to a specif brand, or whether they are just calling out generic colors. Anyone know the answer to this one?
Also, any recommendations on a good brand producing the colors needed for the Flanker family? I've found the Vallejo color set made for the SU-27, which would work, but I've no experience with Vallejo paints. Are they recommended by many? I seem to have heard good and bad about Vallejo paints just reading online. Are there any other good brands producing these colors that I just haven't found yet?
Finally, is Kitty Hawk now defunct, or are they still making kits? The SU-34 I just got was tooled in 2018, but I can't get on their website, and am having a hard time finding the metal langing gear for the kit without paying more on Ebay than I paid for the kit itself. I'm finding it hard to find much of anything about the company really. I suppose I can try emailing the email address on the box and see if I get anything, but just thought I would ask here as well. Thanks for any help, guys!
