Revell vs. ICM plastic?

I have built recent kits from each mfg.  I noted no substantial difference in the plastic.  The molding is really great from both.  Detail and fit are good from both.  Only real difference I see between them is price, but even so ICM kits are not that expensive compared to stuff from Asia.  I do find the instructions in recent RoG kits better than the ICM stuff.  If I see a kit I want from either mfg I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

Reviews are good. I don't think the Revell rebox added much one way or the other.

Sprue shots are simply gorgeous. Now I want one.

The observation made in reviews is that ICM has made huge improvements in their product, I know from experience that older ICM stuff could be soft on detail.

Revell has just reboxed the ICM kit of the Fordson W.O.T. truck, and I'm wondering which one to buy. There are a number of small delicate parts, so the qualities of the plastic is important (i.e., hard or soft, etc.). I've never built an ICM kit - can anyone give me a comparison of the materials between manufacturers?

 

I’ve built some ICM kits, mostly figures and aircraft. Their older releases tended to need clean up of mold release agent, and their figures fine detailing was a bit soft. But overall I really like their kits. They can be tricky for fit of busy areas. Not shake and bake kits by any means. But they are certainly worth a look. None of the kits that I’ve built have styrene that is either remarkably brittle or soft.

Thank you for the replies, gentlemen. You've addressed my main concern - the difficulty or ease of handling the small parts. There's not much differance in price between the two kits; it pretty much boils down to which markings I would prefer. There's a sprue review of the ICM boxing in the latest FSM video and I have a build article in one of the "offshore" armor mags, both very positive.

One point you did not mention, but that I will address- decals. ICM decals tend to be brittle and shatter in my limited experience. Revell does have superior decals, so that may be worth the price difference for you.

ICM kits are actually good and detailed.These 1:48 kits gives you a foundation to build on in detail.Their YAK fighters comes w/ full engines.I have built one and added super detailing.No one matched it on the contest tables.The pmastic is good and yes it’s delicate.Very good kits for the price.
