I use 1000 grit.  I have even used 600 grit very lightly.

I'd recommend using very fine sanding sticks or pads...like 3600-12000 grit. Lightly and gently sand away the top layers of paint.  Its a bit time consuming but it gives you more control over how much paint gets removed.

Even Windex may remove sereral layers of paint.

Try Windex.

How to you remove a patch of acrylic paint for re-airbrushing? I use thinner on a qtip and it clears the paint all the way down to bare plastic. Is there a way to do just a layer?
