Airfix 2020 - Vulcan B.2?!
Posted by Mopar Madness on Monday, November 4, 2019 5:29 PM

Well ladies and gentlemen, one of my favorite shows from across the pond is about to be upon us.  Hopefully one day I'll actually be able to attend ModelWorld Telford in person. If history holds true, my favorite manufacturer Airfix will make some new tool announcements that will probably both amaze and confuse me! Big Smile But word is, they are going to make their first new tool announcement this Saturday!  I don't know about you but I have a few that I am keeping my fingers crossed we'll see for the coming year.  What are your thoughts and what would you like to see?  Here is my immediate new-tool wish list:

1/72 Vulcan

1/72 Short Stirling

1/48 Avro Anson

1/48 Westland Whirlwind H.A.S. MK 22

1/48 AW Seahawk

1/24 Bf 109 or Fw 190

1/350 HMS Queen Elizabeth

A Vulcan for sure.  B.Mk2, Falklands War era.  Black Buck or anything else; I won’t care! Or maybe I’ll do the plane I photographed at Hickam back in the late 1970s.

I hope Airfix do a 1/72 British X-plane series.  I’d love a BAC-221, Bristol T.188, Avro 707, Saunders-Roe SRA.1...

You're so right about those X-planes. A BAC-221 would be a real gem!  They did announce in their blog last week that there would be a "BIG" announcement.  I would love to see a 1/24 SBD Dauntless in time for the release of Midway!

I read about a guy who knows a guy who saw some guys Lidar-ing Vulcans a little while back.  Could it be the “big” announcement?  Makes sense, since it would complete the V-Bomber Force.  Other WAGs include 1/24 Me-262, Meteor, Sea Fury, or Gladiator.  Dark horses would include BP Defiant, Roc, or Skua!  I guess they could also do a Corsair or Thunderbolt since they have the basic engine from the Hellcat.  A Tigercat?  That would be too kwacky!

My personal wish list includes 1/48 Sea Hornet, Barracuda, Firebrand, Vampire and Venom.  And a Sunderland and Stirling in 1/72.

Now, if Airfix wanted to go international, how about a 1/72 C-130 Hercules series?

It's interesting that you said that because I heard that Lidar rumor as well earlier this year. Fingers crossed!

I am deffinetly looking forward to seeing what Airfix has in store next year. I would like to see, all in 72nd

Wetsland Lynx

Wildcat

F-35B with RAF/RN markings

Vulcan, but my guess is this will be done in 2021 in time for the 40th Anniversay of the war in 2022.

I'd also like to see the C-130, be nice to get a decent stretched RAF version without having to break the bank.

I think iits a safe bet there will be another Buccaneer, this time with RAF markings including the Gulf War option.

Our club has a stand at Telford every year, but the more i hear about it, the less i want to go. Sounds like a real ball ache.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I need to correct whoever set this thread up.

The Telford Show is IPMS UK Scale Modelworld.

It is NOT organised by Airfix.

Lol, no correction needed sir.  I'm referring to the Airfix 2020 lineup of models... NOT the shows sponsor. Wink

Theres plenty of nice kits out, so no reason why they can't. I would guess they have been waiting for them to enter UK service.

For those attending, my Lancaster will be on display on HK Models' stand. I won't be arriving until just after 9am, so take your time getting there to look at this beast to give me time to unpack it and set it up!

As the show gets closer time seems to be slowing! This is throwing me out brainwise!

Something else I would like to see in the coming year, assuming they still continue the 1/35 line, would be the Academy Grant/Lee kits.  I can say with certainty those would be a couple kits I would absolutely pick up.

OK Mopar.......Thanks for putting me right about what you actually meant. lol. Perhaps Airfix Releases for 2020 at Telford may have been a little less confusing in the title.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the show and Airfix bless you with the releases you anticipate!

Just saw this on a couple different forums.  A credible leak or cleverly leaked misinformation? If it's true, "Shut up and take my money!" I have been patiently waiting for a new tool Vulcan for years!

Interesting, they keeped very tight lipped about the Hellcat last year. Guess we will see this weekend. A year sooner than i would have expected, but i think we all knew it was coming.

I certainly wouldn't put it past Airfix to "leak" something like this and throw us off the scent. They can be sneaky little buggers.

Well if the rumors are true I’m a happy camper!  Will I need to buy THREE to show my approval and financial support for Airfix?  Might have to (antiflash white, hi-viz camo/markings, Black Buck).

They replaced the ancient Blenheim and Beaufighter kits, so a Beaufort would be nice to complete the family.

Well, seems it wasn't misdirection, it was a gaff by someone. The Airfix FB page confirms next years big release is the Vulcan.

That is wonderful news indeed! The CAD images look fantastic. Nice sturdy wings and plenty of detail to go around. I guess I can take my old kit and convert it to a B.1 or what-if B.3! I wonder if they will announce any other new tool goodies? We may have to wait until January for those.

Seen a few other people mention converting the old kit to a B.1, a B.3 sounds like a nice idea though.

They do tend to just make one announcment at Telford and the rest come in Jan. I would imagine it will be the tail end of next year before we see this. Will be just intime for the Falklands war GB i am intending to run in 2021. I have a Victor, hopefully some one will add a Vulcan (HINT  Wink)
