Roket plastic glue
Posted by danburnsart on Monday, December 9, 2019 7:40 PM

aHello, I was wondering if anyone has experience with Roket Plastic Glue?  The main reason I ask is because I'm searching for some truly non-toxic, no-odor alternatives to standard cements and adhesives.  My wife has severe asthma and my traditional product choices are intolerable for her.  This has placed a very severe restriction on my styrene habit.  Thanks for any help.

Hi Dan! 2 cents Many of the members on here use Tamiya Thin, Extra Thin and Thick for their builds. I use it also. The extra thin is very good for building. You can clamp the parts together and then use the fine brush in the cap to run a bead down the seam. It works by capillary action and does a great job. It has a slight odor but not offensive and dissapears quickly. The Thick can be used for small gap filling too. Not very expensive and lasts quite a while. Available at Hobby Lobby and most on-line sites.

Hope that this helps.

Thanks Jim, I'll look into it. My wife is hypersensitive to such things. In the past I have used primarily Testor's liquid cement (in the black diamond container) and Bob Smith CA. Both products annoy her asthma even though I use them far from her in a secluded room in the basement. This has become even worse in recent months . Thank you for your suggestions .

Is there any way you could set up an exhaust fan near your workbench with a dryer vent taking the exhaust out a window? I have a set up of a piece of plywood 8" x21" with felt insulation around the edges and a dryer vent that I open the window, insert it and close the window on it when working at the bench or paintbooth. It takes the fumes and blows them out the window. The wife never smells anything.

I've had this set-up for years and it works fine. If I can be of any help, just let me know.

PS - The box is an old kitchen cabinet that someone had thrown out in their trash so it didn't cost me anything. The fan is not too expensive. My wife made the curtain out of a scrap piece of material. Once in a while, she comes up and takes it off and puts it in the washer to remove the dust that sticks to it when I have the curtain pulled and the fan on to dry a model.

I have no experience with Roket, but I did come across some Tamiya Limonene cement a while back. Supposedly it is low odor, and made from citrus so much less 'chemically'. Might be worth looking into

+1 on the exhaust fan. I bought a bathroom vent fan from Amazon for $13
