Yeah they are big, and the quality of the Tamiya kits is hard to complain about.

Now, I enjoyed their Me-109 so much, I bought their FW-190 and Spitire as well.   Now when I did those 25 years ago I had been building kits for 30 years, so I had developed lots of techniques.  I thought  they were pretty nice.  Of course, that was a long time ago.  We also thought that all modelling was going away.  The computers and games were taking over.  I would never consider throwing a kit in the trash.  I have never threw a model away.  I just learned to use putty, strip styrene, sanding, etc.  Now Airfix always had its' share of problems.  It was expected.  Nothing big.

GMorrison

I remember that 190. The fuselage didn't close up around the completed engine. I threw it at the wall.

Me too, Bill, went right into the bin. That and the 1:24 Spit as well. Nearly cured my Airfix interests for good.

Maybe if we all send a constructive email to Airfix about this and theie cheap plastic as well they might just oblige. Big Smile

Their recent and new Tiffy and Hellcat are examples of what they can do where as the old kits that they continually rebox are tired, worn out and quite frankly now an embarrasment to the brand and range considering what they have released.

Two large hellcats are on my bench, so look out for a large build thread in the aircraft section!

I too ended up throwing the FW190 and I recently attempted to build the 1/24 ME 109, but abandoned it as it was undelievably warped and had more flash than parts!

When I was a kid my parents stopped me spending my pocket money on an Airfix 1/24 scale Spitfire.

So now I'm 56 and I was trying to introduce my kids to modelling and I just couldnt help it. I bought the 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire Mk VIII ( I'll get the IX eventually as well) being the biggest I could get where I live. Now I'm totally back into modelling.

If Airfix bring out the 1/24 I'll have to get it!:)

I built their Me 109 E 1/24 kit over 25 years ago.  The model was real good.  I still have it hanging on the ceiling.  Nice kit.  I had no issue with the engine and cowling.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

The 1/24 109, Spitfire, & Hurricane will be the old toolings. I would LOVE a new tooled Bf 109 or Fw 190.

It seems that Airfix are releasing a 1/24 Spitfire and Me 109 2Q20. Are these brand new toolings and CAD designs or the original desperatly out of date original 70's tooling and molds in a new box?
