Just a Thought in Passing.
Hi, Ya'll!
I was helping a friend today and ran across something that surprised me. He's four years older than me. He has NEVER built a model in his life!! This is something that knocked my socks off!
The reason we are spending quality time together is this. He came to our Model RailRoad Club to learn how to build models. He got kidnapped by the lure of Model Railroads and then realized he'd never built a Model! So here it is six years later and he got the courage to ask someone!
So what I am doing is gently stringing the lessons so he won't be overwhelmed. He wants to do more but he's not ready! Finally, I told him , " Want do you want to learn?" His reply? "As much as I can !" There is a grouping of Diesel engines called an A,B,A Consist. That the same engine front and back with a Power or " Dummy " in the middle. You've probably seen pictures of this arrangement . A Lead engine facing forward, the Middle unit and the End unit facing backwards.
This was done with a lot of the early "Streamliner Trains" ( Think "Santa Fe Superchief" ) So I have him started him on detailing the back engine, which in his group is the " Dummy" We are starting with windows and "Grab Irons".
He catches on pretty fast. I showed him how to scratch a windshield. I got one side done and he did the other Perfect ! My thought ? It is sure nice to see someone's face when they,ve done this and done it right! Enjoy!
