Not really. Christmas/New Year is just the right time to just grab something easy out of the stash, spreading some glue around and slapping some paint on.

The build does not have to be competition grade or something like that. It can be used as an excuse when family can get a bit overbearing at Christmas time and can be a very useful escape for some peace and quiet, a de-stress from family visiting, or indeed to avoid visiting family although not for grounds of divorce!

The aim is just to join in with the challenge and that is any kit, any add-ons and you have 12 days to start and finish as well as doing a thread on here.

I always put up a warning thread first so that those who would like to have a bash at the challenge can talk to SWMBO first (to get permission) and then to have a look around at what is out there and consider how they build, what they want to spend and the best kit that fits the bill and sparks the interest of:

"I can do that in 12 days. The wife/partner says yes and that would look good, not too big, easy to put together and will fill that small space in the cabinet."

Here are a couple I have in my stash, don't require any aftermarket, not too challenging and once done will be nice shelf fillers.

I could go a little bigger with one of these. The detail is on the outside and really they are quick to put together and it will be just some seatbelts which I have already from HGW for another build and a good exterior paint job.

I have done a 12 day build over the Christmas period for many years, even when overseas with the military on active service. I have done one on here and another forum and as a thought opened it up on here to see if members would partake in a bit of crimble fun. No prizes, anything goes and just 12 days to do it in.

You could say that the prize is the sense of accomplishment of doing whatever it is in 12 days without getting into trouble at home!

It is a bit of seasonable fun. doesn't matter if you do it in the timescale or not. It's something out of the stash so there is a gap to fill in the New Year Sales!!!!!

I suppose it could be done once a month but then it becomes a little boring, Christmas is a bit special, so a nice challenge is something special at that time of year.

The build returns.

I am very sorry that due to illness last Christmas I decided not to take part and I did miss not doing it but followed all those who did and there were some very stunning builds done in the 12 days.

For those who don't know, the aim is to start, build and finish a model of any scale and subject in 12 days with Day 1 being Boxing day, or the 26th of December.

The rules are very simple.

1. It is not a group build. Log your build in the apropriate section.

2. Anything goes. any scale, any subject, extra PE etc.

3. 12 days only from 26th December 2020. Finish 6 January 2021 midnight your time.

4. Those who finish in the 12 days get a badge.

I am considering comissioning a failure badge.

Why? This is a bit of Christmas fun and should be taken as such so choose a kit that you think you can complete in 12 days. Keep in mind of family and time of year and talk to SWMBO first. The 12 days of Christmas build is NOT grounds or reason for divorce or family issues. Indeed, bring them in on it.

If you don't meet the 12 day deadline, not to worry, just finish it and don't abandon it. Nothing like a good bit of fun displaying a build badge with FAILED across it. THis is a fun build with an added challenge thrown in. Our hobby should not only be a learning experience, but FUN too. approach this build as that!

So, engage the family (or use it as an escape protocol) build ANYTHING you want, add anything you wish to the build and try and do it in 12 days!

Don't choose anything too complex or expensive. Keep it simple and remember that painting always takes longer than expected.

Who is up for a bit of Crimble fun?????
