Need help finding space for a current modelling workspace.

Hello everyone, I am in need of your help.

Currently, my computer desk has my 18" x 24" hobby mat, as the only modelling work I'm doing is assembling HO scale freight car kits, which I do carefully which should not make too big of a mess.

However, I need your help of finding a space for future scale modelling within my personal den, which I have included a floor plan of complete with measurements, furniture spaces (computer desk is outlined in blue) and door ways. I want to have my computer desk separate from a dedicated modelling desk to work it, but I can't seem to find a good spot to include a desk the same size and width as my computer desk space.

I can't block the doorways, and need a desk not under five feet for enough room to work on. I had the idea of reverse mounting the door that you enter the room thru, but if I placed a desk there it would block the door way.

There is a spare room that's bigger and similar in size, but its a spare for guests, and the basment needs work so I can't work down there due to the cold climate and moisture.

What could I do?

nothing showing in your links. do you have 2 partial walls with a corner that is empty to use a "L" desk with 1 part for computer & other part for modelling?

Sorry about that. They are imgur link, and I accidenly switched the pictures around and did not fit the linked discriptions.

The desk might be a problem. I want to create a dedicated computer desk with drawers on either side. My den is L shaped, and the modelling side if I had a l shaped desk would feel a but cramped. The current desk and computer desk I wish to create via woodworking is six feet wide and 30" wide.

The space for the other corner of a l shape desk like tou mentioned would jut out for 3 feet. It would feel cramped. The closet I had the idea of renovating out to create a space/nook big enough for a five foot wide desk which would be plenty of space. Only problem is I need my folks permission to renovate it. It will be a while before any of these plans start though.

Its a bit hard without images and sizes, but some years ago when my space was very limited, I took the doors of a built in wardrobe, (what you probably call a closet), and built some shelving into either side. I then built a fold down bench into the centre and this worked fine. I used part of the shelving on one side as a spray booth with an old record player turntable.. None of it was significant in terms of structural changes and when we sold the property, I simply reinstated the original.

six feet wide and 30" deep not six feet wide and 30" wide. my bench\desk is U shape, about 8' per side 30" deep with 1 side that is parallel to the other side raised for standing work. with this bench\desk i can be on the net & work on my model warships. going to build another alongside the lower bench to stack the stash to give the room some order. i have the entire 3rd floor(officially attic) to play with with almost 1/2 being my bedroom.

i put the links into chrome as i mostly use ie11 & saw the pictures. what is tha"T" thing on wall "E"?

Consider re-purposing closet in wall B as model storage & remove door or re-hang as a sliding door.
Move desk to the left under window if you consider that you want natural lighting for painting.
Fill in wall E & F with desking to suit. B, C & D for book cases/display space, I favor Billy Bookcases with/without doors, picked up dirt cheap (for dirty deeds ;-) ) from local pages.

My workroom is U shaped. Key is 2 of 3-drawer filing cabs for storage, with a solid table top on it, + an adjustable comfy bar-stool so I can work sitting/standing. (does my Back no end of good)
My pc desk to the left (2 standard pc's & pc workbench room).
Book cases along the short U base, containing model supplies, a printer, & TV/Radio, visible/audible from all benches.
Other Long U, is book cases, with books, (model stash on top) and a Third generic bench for all other 'honey-do,' admin & generic fixing, so that model & pc bench isn't disturbed.
Generic shelving over spare walls as well.

Really? you are giving up space because a guest might show up. It's your place that you are paying for, use the space for your benefit. If a bed can remain in there then the guests can sleep with your desk in there, just take a modelling break when you have guests. Our spare bedroom has my wifes sewing machine and indoor herb garden. I would never set a room aside to just sit and collect dust for guests.

Now that you say this, I forgot to mention that I live with my folks, so they have the final say if i can renovate/alter/build anything in the house. I plan to do a renovation of my own bedroom and my den, and will be paying for the renovation supplies and will have my dad help and teach me how to do DIY.

So I have to wait if they will allow me the spare guest bedroom, or renovate out the closet.

I would say bummer about that but you sure will learn a lot doing a renovation, have fun and it should make for some quality time with your Dad helping you.
