There's also True North, a brand of alkyd enamel like Model Master and made in Maine. Mail-order only at the moment, however.

There's also Colourcoats, a line of enamels made in the UK but available from at least one US e-tailer.

And Tru-Color, an extensive paint line from Arizona, a descendant of the Scalecoat line of model railroad colors. 

And MrP, an imported line of acrylic lacquers that has gotten rave reviews.

There are some great alternatives to those paints we all grew up with. You may have to Google a bit to find a source, but that's not hard to do.

Rustoleum used to own Polly-scale, one of the better early acrylics. Discarded.  Did'ja ever hear of the Testors Color by Boyd line of auto model paints, matching colors of Boyd Coddington?   Discarded.

For me the problem is that I don't like acrylic paint and I'm too old and set in my ways to change now. How much do I hate change? My Camaro still has a cassette deck, so that should speak volumes.

Since you’re another die hard enamel fan like myself, you have two options here in the US. 1, Humbrol, which is still widely available. 2, Revell, which are due to being imported here anytime now. Both have large color selections, and have paints matched to FS, RAL, BSC, and RLM color standards. Yeah, you have to work with those little tins, but once you learn their tricks, those paints store and last once opened for far longer than bottles of Model Master.

    Listen, It would be nice to move on from this. But move on to what? I need paints that cover in one coat with No Primer! I need paints with a High Gloss or a nice Semi-Gloss in many colors. I can mix my own but I am not a paint Mfgr!

    There is no color out there In whatever brand that makes the job simpler than the ones we came to trust. Like you said Discarded. Why? I don't think the others out there can hold a candle to any you mentioned. Floquil? perfect for the use model railroads get. Pactra? Highest shine I ever saw for one coat, brushmark free paint.

 The Boyd Coddington line? Well, the only one I used there was and is clear. I have a gross of bottles of that! I like it because it does not yellow after exposure to sun.Polly Scale? My First and joyful intro to Acrylic and the joys of No Brushmarks and really good color line. Yeah. Sure did love that stuff!

 After your comments I am putting you on the firing line. What brands out there are one step( from bottle to surface ) great matches for fed Specs and where do I get it in TEXAS? There said it. I haven't found it. I have grudglingly use Craft Acrylics and their okay but to much mixing is needed for the colors I need, and then you still have to Clear-Glosscoat for Automotive use!

I never heard of these companies.  Does the MRPaint site convert its prices to dollars?  I tried switching to English but the Euro price never changed.  It might be nice to see in advance how much things cost first. 

 

You can buy MRP from a few places in the US.  Sprue Brothers has a good selection, and HobbyWorldUSA pretty much has the full line.  Both places have been great to deal with.

I looked and looked for Stainless Steel Metalizer in a spray can. I found it at a hobby shop's website in Poland. Let's see if it ever shows up. I paid via PayPal, so my money should be secure.

Do they make enamel paints?

 

 

Not as far as I know, but their acrylic lacquers aren't a big PITA like the Model Master Acrylics were.  They are all pre-thinned and shoot really nicely, right out of the bottle.  No tip dry, no runs, no sags.  Cure rock-hard in about 30 minutes, tough as nails, completely resistant to fingerprints (something I had yet to find a paint that has that quality), and after that 30 minute cure it passed my "try to rip it off the plastic with Dymo tape" test with not a single particle of paint coming off the plastic.  The only drawback I have seen is that the pigments are so fine that most of their paints I've done test shots with are a little on the glossy side, unless they specify "Matt" on the bottle.  Not a problem though, since their matt clear coat cures dead flat, safe for handling in about 5 minutes.

I've looked around a little bit on this subject and haven't seen anything so I wanted to make sure that all of our members know that testors has been bought out by Rust-Oleum and Rust-Oleum intends to eliminate all hobby paint. They've already discontinued quite a few of the testors paints and some of them are getting very, very hard to find, like dunkelgelb 43. I saw a bottle on eBay the other day for $18.

 

So if you're using testors paint it might be a good idea to stock up on your favorites.

 

Yes, that’s part of the Model Master Line which has been been on the extinction list for some time now. There have been a few threads on that subject here for awhile now.
