Would most likely be a dud round stuck in the barrel that went unnoticed.

A 17 Pounder ammo explosion in a Firefly? How does that happen?  And why does the barrel split like a string bean?  Fracturing along the rifling?

That would make an interesting diorama.  But you would definitely need a photo of the real thing and a description of the event.
