I can say with certainty that at least the Two Bobs Thunderbirds set is correct as the pilot of number 5 at the time the set was made was a friend of a friend of a friend of ours and his name is included.

speaking of beauty...I knew when I posted that title someone was going to respond with that Seinfeld line.  True story.  About 10-15 years ago I was in the audience for David Letterman.  One of his guest was Teri Hatcher.  She is more stunning in person than what we see on t.v.   

I was curious to see if anyone would get the reference  

As Howard Stern once said of Teri Hatcher, "This is what every girl should look like-brown hair, big boobs!" (well, he IS Howard Stern).

I agree.  After I glue my tweezers to a few parts, get fingerprints on some paint, and rip some decals his plane will be on my shelf.

Well, Orville is a general, is or was in charge of 5th Air Force, flies a F-16 on occasion, and gets paid to do all of the above. I’d say that’s a life well lived.

Oh yeah it is really cool that as model builders we acknowledge these people.  I'm lucky to have a brother who flew helicopters in the Navy.  I work next to a Naval base and have many of these men and women as friends and clients.  It's so interesting to hear about their job and accomplishments. When it comes time to slide that ORVILLE WRIGHT decal on the canopy side I'll smile knowing that  this dude exist and he's probably a bad ass.

Most of the time this hobby is about keeping it as real as it gets, isn't it?

And a model is a bit of a tribute to people who designed, built, operated the real thing, don't you think? In such case we mean real people, not imaginative people, even if we don't know the exact names. But sometimes the names are known, and for me it's very cool to sometimes be able to even contact them - for example per e-mail - and ask for details on the real thing. Takes modelling to a wholly new level!

If the pilot/crew names are on a military aircraft they are in the public domain, so if reference can be found it can be used without asking permission. 

We try to get the names on the decals as accurately as possible with the reference at hand.  

Only a few times have we included specific pilots due to them working with us.  It would be nice if it happened more often...

No. Currently model makers overseas are super lazy and just work from what's easy to find on line.

many of us try to steer their ships in the right direction, but it's hard to make them listen.
