What to build next?
Posted by snapdragonxxx on Sunday, January 31, 2021 1:37 PM

Over Christmas I have built quite a few small stuff to make some space in the stash. There are still some small stuff such as a couple of arty kits. However, my attention is really on some of the "bigger" items in my stash.

Now, apart from metal cannon barrel replacements (coming from Australia) this is ready to go:

I do need some extra bits for the M5

I also have this:

Which is just and OOB build. Now I don't have any paints for Russian aircraft, so I thought instead of doing a bare metal version instead of the camo. I would appreciate thoughts on that.

I also have this, but the instructions have gone astray:

If course, the Elefant is ready too, but after quite a few ground pieces...

What do you guys think?

I'd go with the Skyraider, one of my favorite aircraft. you're familiar with Scalemates: they didn't have the funny pages?

I responded to this about the same time as Bill posted. My post isn't there. I'm starting to wonder what is going on around these here parts.

Back on topic, I voted for the Zero.

I like the Mig.  So three people voted and we have 3 different kits.

I like the idea of the NMF MiG. That would be a stand out for sure.

If your Skyraider is 1/48 scale, you can get Vietnam camouflage stencils from Aero Mask.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

No, no - you do the Skyraider! It's a legend of the skies!

Whatever you decide - good luck with it!

I like the idea of a nfm mig, but lean towards the vietnam era skyraider.

If that's the Tamiya 1/48, can dig mine out, copy the instructions and email.

For those interested, The Skyraider is Trumpeter's 1/32 kit no. 02254  A-1J AD-7 Skyraider.

If you have instructions for this then I would greatly appreciate high quality scans including paint and stencil locations etc.

As Iam posting on 2 forums, the first will be the Zero which will allow me to get hold of Vallejo's Vietnam camo set and some extras for the Skyraider. The MIG in a NMF will be inbetween the Zero and the Skyraider.

As usual, these will be posted in the aircraft section.

Paint Note:

I will be using the factory fresh colours for the Zero matched to surviving chipsets which, for the A6m2b was an Amber Grey colour all over. The Aotake will be mixed and thinned using Tamiya paints in a 3:2 mix and then thinned using their thinner. I have already done a trial of this. I initially used the mix in the instruction book of X13 and X25 in a 3:1 ratio and thinned for spraying and was very impressed but the clear green needed to just add that little more for a better translucent effect.

THe only game in town (unfortunatly) for the cowling is AK. Despite their scale colour conversion policy it is so close to the original that it can't be ignored. For some reason, Vallejo have chosen not to produce this colour for their WWII Japanese aircraft sets.

For the Tamiya Zero, it is just an OOB build. It is very highly detailed and apart from metal gun barrels, nothing else is really needed. I will be using HGW Wet transfers and seatbelts and painting stencils for insignia etc from Maketar.

Let's have some fun!!!
