Hello All,
I just bought a '63 Corvette Stingray model from Hobby Lobby,and it comes with various number decals(4 sets from 0 through 9).I wanted to know if there were any famous racers back in the day who drove the car and if there were,what was their racing number(I wanna make use of those number decals)?
Thanks,TheModeler(Novice Mode{Just for now})
ON THE BENCH(My first ones):
-1:25 AMT/Round2 1969 Yenko Camaro(40% done)

-Atlantis Models BELL Firefighter "Old Smokey",1/76
Google 1963 corvette racer. I pulled up Lang, Joslin, mention of Thompson. They ran 3 in the 12 hours of Sebring in '63.
Also were in SCCA events. Several numbers were used. Just pick which car you want to replicate.
My guess would be Mickey Thompson, without looking it up.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Yeah I saw his car on Google,and I thought it was a nice color.It's very simple,so I think I'm actually save him to my list of potential replicas.
The Sebring cars had some interesting mods, would be quite a bit of scratching. Joslins red #85 might be worth a look too

I also saw that one,though there are a lot of small details and with me being a novice modeler,I would like something a bit more simple,and since the kit doesn't come with any stripe decals or anyhing...
It'll be a huge challenge to duplicate the 1963 grand Sport Vette racer. Too many details you need to accomplish building it from AMT '63 Split Window Corvette kit. Why not find these on eBay to save you teh aggravation duplicating it from a stock kit?
A word of caution, they might be pricey but it's worth a look. See if there are AM parts to create the type of Corvette you're looking to build.
Take a look in eBay. There are few reasonably priced, $35 - $37 range. Search by typing in "1963 Grand Sport Corvette racer model kit"
