Crossover of photo etch parts

It can be done, i've done it myself a few times. few things to keep in mind. The kit your doing may have slightly different dimensions (smaller/bigger) than the kit the AM was designed for. So there may be slight gaps or bit might need trimming to fit, things like IP's especially. If your useing a PE set, it will give the numbers of the kit parts to be trimmed/replaced. The PE set might not ad/replace everything you might want it to as the kit it was designed for might be more detailed and some bits might not need replacing.

It just need's a bit more thought putting into it and double checking everything.

I've only used PE that comes with a kit or AM seatbelts. I'm 80 and the eyes and hands won't let me work on that stuff. I'd like to but maybe in another life.

If you go to the airplane section of the forums you will probably get the answers to your question. The members who post there usually use a fair amount of PE in their work.

I do it all the time...chiefly because I rarely build the 'state of the art' kits that most P-E is designed for, and more often want to add detail to old Airfix, Frog or Revell kits and the like.

Generally there are very few fit problems except for instrument panels and cockpit consoles; there the forethought Bish mentioned is an absolute essential. Panels often need to be trimmed (or the areas where they fit 'enlarged' via judicious hacking or grinding away too-thick plastic walls with files or a Dremel). All of which is much easier to do at the start, rather than when exacting cockpit-detailing is finished and then you realize the blasted part won't fit!

Often.  Sometimes I even use it on other genre.  For instance, gratings are a common object on many different models.  Ladders are generic.  In fact, PE manufacturers sell generic sets of rails and ladders for various popular ship scales.

Not quite the same thing, but very similar...I'm adapting 3D printed decals from Quinta Studio to fit an aftermarket resin cockpit.  They were made to be used on the kit parts.  It definitely can be done with a bit of ingenuity and elbow grease.

There are probably as many correct answers as there are photoetched parts. I've had some that will not be suitable for another kit and some that fit right in without a problem.

And some kits live lives in another company's box so what will work for an original might work just fine in a retooled reissue.
