As an aside, doing things the other way around, in the past I have used stuff like "Squardon Green Putty" as an adhesive for bonding non-like matereials (such as balsa or bass wood to plastic).

I use Milliput for the same situations, and its also water soluble before it cures.  Anything that can be smoothed flush with mild solvents or no solvents and will harden enough to actually stay put afterward is a huge plus for avoiding damage to intricate details.  Didn't know this about JB Weld.  Pretty cool stuff!  Cool

Yes I used it to reattach the tail I had to cut add to correct a lean as well as attaching the wings and engine nacelles where a gap was present at the wing root.

I use Apoxie Sculpt for the same purpose.  You don't need alcohol to smooth it though, water works very well as long as it is done before it cures.  It is quite hard once cured, but still sandable.  I use it mostly on bigger gaps, or wing root seams where I need a nice strong bond.

The key is to smooth it out with the alcohol Q tip before it cures

Seems to me that would be much harder than the surrounding plastic for sanding purposses.
