Z scale Railroad stuff is 1/220 compared to the Revell ship at 1/238 or so. That would work I guess.

I remember years ago on one of the ship-modeling forums seeing a cutaway someone had done of the old Revell four-stacker destroyer...manned with what I presume to have been some sort of model RR figures (since it considerably pre-dated anything but DIY resin figures). It was incredibly detailed, a really breathtaking display of an 'old familiar' model, with the crew at convincing 'action' stations!

Unfortunately, that was 2 or 3 generations of hard drive crashes ago...and I've never been able to find it since....Crying

Yes, those are fun. I have the Revell Type XX1 u-boat cut away and am in the planning stages for the Trumoeter Gato to do the same.

In some ways having the decks lift out works as well.

Nice idea.

Hey!

You know what? I think it would be great to have something that every other modeler has a shot at. A Cut-Away! Not just any old ship. How about the S.S.United States, or the N.S.Savannah? I have also thought this when building model ships on Commission. I have done two cut aways. One based on Lindberg's U.S.C.G. Patrol Boat and the other on a Lindberg Chris Craft Constellation!

The Model companies come out with a variety of models of Clear bodied cars, Full interior with Cut-Away options for Armor and then there's Planes. Many with visible ( Clear planes) interior stuff.  Then There's the Submarines. Where's the Surface ships. Don't they deserve a shot. Just a little like the Captain's Sea cabin and maybe the Mess deck or Engineering spaces.

Oh well, I might as well hope my prayers for total World Peace will happen while I am alive!
