I Remember;

Okay;

      Here's one for you. I  Had just gottten home from the hobby shop. Jack had just gotten in his second order as a hobby shop owner. The box on my work bench said-F-111 Swing-Wing Fighter. Aurora inc.

      I sat there for a minute digesting the Box-Cover artwork. Not much detail on the box surprisingly. I wonder today if it was a second release instead of a first. I really didn't know. Still don't know. Well, it was like the Aurora C-141 Starlifter, a pretty good sized box.

      I had quite a few Aurora planes. I liked the smoothness of the surfaces and the overall looks of the completed planes. Some, expecially the fighters, I cut the pilot profiles out of the Cockpits and then Coated the inside of the Canopies with Teal paint so the lack of a pit wasn't available to the eye.

     Well, I opened the thing. "Geez" I thought"What a pile of parts!" Well according to the instructions it had Swing Wing features and a Cockpit module that dropped out of the bottom of the plane. It also had Working Landing Gear and Doors!

        With the wings out it had a span of about maybe 15" I think maybe more, maybe less, I don't remember. It had geared molded panels inside and the wing " Boots" attached to it in a sliding joint so when the wings were extended there was no wing hole. Kind of like the Monogram version later!

       Whatta pile of Plastic! Fun to build except the cockpit Module. I had to tack it in place because it kept falling out from it's own weight! But it sure stayed in my memory-I just wanted to share this with you.

The Monogram F-111 was a rework of those Aurora molds, just like their A-7, and several other kits. I have the Monogram kit in my stash to build one day. I've had it for decades, but only in the past few years do I feel that I have the skills to build it up and improve it as I'd like.
