Not sure where you are but I used sticking displays https://www.strikingdisplays.co.uk/.

Not cheap but delighted with the customizer case 67 cm * 18 cm

Perhaps for large models a large diorama base is in order to display them

Very Nice wish I had the room!  I just have to cram them all into ny case or bookshelves.  A few I have given away to various people or orginizations to display such as the V.A.

Life tip:  Skip marrage: find the women you hate the most and buy her a house and car.

the big one in the middle is apiece of real furniture, some lady 5 min from my house was moving and downsizing sold it for $125

If you should find yourself looking for furniture-size display cases -- reasonably cheap -- keep an eye out for local retail stores that are advertising "going out of business" sales. One can often find used but serviceable store display fixtures at a great price...though you will almost always have to arrange to move them yourself.

This is how I got my first glass display case Really nicely built had some storage on the bottom and was 6 feet by 2 feet, cost my 100 bucks from the store and paid a buddy with a pickup a twelve pack and a twenty to move from store to house!!

Nearly all the large builds I have completed hang in my workroom/garage.  I do have a 1/24 Mosquito hanging from a wall in one of my bedrooms.

I have IKEA's Billy case.  Its an excellent display cabinet.  Glass doors and will hold 15-20 1/48 scale aircraft.  For me that's several years of builds.

I'm a tanker and build mainly armor models. Even those take up space. Many times when I finish a project, the turret comes off and the kit is put back into a model box never to see the light of day again. I usually put a dot on the box side (like those stickers for yard sales) so I know the kit was completed.

A few kits that have special meaning to me get put into a display case or on a bookshelf. Some of these might get rotated as I build something else.

I tend to choose subjects based on my available space. My hat's off to those of you who can build those awesomely large kits and have place to show them off.

Hi; Well;

It seems that has always been a major problem for Airplane and Sailing Ship builders. What I started to do when I owned my own home and had the room. I would buy large plaques and then Drill four holes. Then I would get Clear Table Cloth Material and make little or large Tents with Hangar Guage wire to stiffen them. I now rent so My space is limited. I bought some USED doctors book cabinets.

You know, you also see them in Law offices( Or used to) They have framed Glass doors that raise up and slide back. Perfect for Ships 1/350 and smaller (Some modern 1/200 if not to long)and Some ( But not all) 1/48 Planes and of course Cars. So when i find an office that's closing or moving I ask. That's how I got my hanging Plans cabinet Too!

Gentlemen, how do your prize aircraft builds that you hang from the ceiling or display on open shelves not accumulate tons of dust requiring frequent cleaning that increases the chances of damaging them eveytime they need to come down not to mention dusting them.

I had ships and planes on open shelves and they were like dust magnets, drove me nuts, something would always break off when moving or dusting, that's why I started getting sealed cases, maybe I wipe them down once or twice a year, very little dust gets inside

I do plan to build more enclosed display cases when I get a round to it, but I just haven't collected enough round toits yet.

However, hanging models are something else- how else do you display an airship or a spacecraft.

Re-useit stores sometimes have great deals on used curio cabinets. Also used office furniture stores  sometimes have used glass door cabinets for sale pretty cheap.

Aircraft can be hung from the ceiling, displayed gear up and props turning.  I had the Graf Zeppelin hung from the light fixture in my den.

Hang them from the ceilings or walls are two options I’ve seen. Ships; wall mounted display shelves, one per ship.

Displaying Large Models
Posted by Kilroy Was Here on Monday, May 31, 2021 6:53 AM

I haven't been active on this forum in a long time. However, Friday was my last day working and I am now retired.

My question is how to dispaly large models? I particularly like building 1/48th scale aircraft, many are large in both width and depth (I.E. a 1/48th scale B-29). There's more I want build but display space is becomng a problem. Fighters and 1/35th scale armour aren't too much of a problem, I also want to build 1/350th scale ships, particularly battleships.

How do you display large scale models? (photos appreciated)
