Revell B-52 Anyone?
Posted by ButcherOfTheSomme on Monday, June 28, 2021 6:41 PM

Hello all, I'm searching for the instructions for the really old "Boeing B-52 Giant Stratofortress" Kit number H-207-98 in 1:175 scale by Revell. The original version of this kit was released in 1954, and a modified version with an X-15 rocket plane has recently been re-released by Atlantis. I'm searching for scans or photos of the original 1954 release instructions and decals. I'm going to try and backdate the Atlantis kit to the original configuration. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Welcome Sign

I remember when the B-52  model came out.  It was actually around 1968.  It had a motor included that from what I was told by my A.F. recruiter sounded pretty close to the real thing.  I found out for myself that the real aircraft was close when it was taxiing, takeoff was a whole different matter.

Back in 1954 the B-52 was brand new and most spent their time on the alert pads while they were loaded with nukes or doing their Fail Safe flights.  Back then, nobody got near them and any information about this new bomber was restricted.  They didn't show up on T.V. until the Vietnam War and eventually were seen on the nightly news.

Thanks, John, but I'm specifically looking for the instructions for the original configuration 1954 issue without the X-15.

The first B-52 I saw flew low over my home town, Silver City, New Mexico, around 1958 or 1959. I had just locked the door of a warehouse where I was getting some new stock for the small department store I worked in when I heard a roar, looked up, and was startled to see airplane at very low altitude. It was so close I could almost count the rivets, and noticed dark exhaust stains under the wings. And then it was gone. I knew exactly what it was; not many aircraft escaped my interest in those days. And these days!

I didn't see any B-52s in Vietnam, even though they were dropping bombs on suspected enemy positions during the early days of my first operation, Operation Double Eagle, January 28 through February 17, 1966. The only other B-52 I've seen is the one on display at the Air Force Academy.

I did get a dramatic view of a B-47 a year or so later. Some friends and I were climbing Cooke's Peak — the Matterhorn of the Southwest. As we approached the summit, the bomber suddenly burst into view just above the peak. And that was the only B-47 I've ever seen! You might enjoy reading my web page about that climb, Climbing Cooke's Peak.

On the bench: A diorama to illustrate the crash of a Beech T-34B Mentor which I survived in 1962 (I'm using Minicraft's 1/48 model of the Mentor), and a Pegasus model of the submarine Nautilus of 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas fame.

Awesome, living here in Southern Illinois means we get to enjoy Ill. ANG units doing Air to Air refueling with Chinooks and Herks.

If you're on FaceBook, there is a vintage Revell model page that you could join and ask. These guys tend to have or know where everything is.

There is at least one partial picture in that group of the original B-52 plans. Ask the person who has the instructions if you can get a copy.

Here's a few pictures I took during the war, including a page from the manual for the paint scheme.  A couple pictures have started to change to a reddish color from age .

I think you're thinking of Monogram's 1/72 kit, ikar.

You're right, I must have missed that detail somehow.  He found one of the litle models from back then when they also had the B-36 kit.  Old age must be getting to me a little, sorry.
