Yes, that is correct and when I dialed lower than the highest setting it quickly turned off.  Do you think I have a defective Dremel and need to contact them as I cannot think of any other solution?  Thank you for your interest in helping me, really appreciate it.

Paweł, i don't think that is the problem as old Dremel controller does same thing as new controller.

Or maybe the speed controller is made for a tool with a DC motor in it and the dremel has an AC motor in it...

Good luck with your tools and have a nice day

Paweł

Seems most likely to me that your external speed controller has failed.  Those things are realatively cheaply made, and they don't last forever.  I had one, but that was way back in the 1960's.  If yours is of that vintage, as Bones would say, "It's dead, Jim!"

PS:  On second reading, I see you recently purchased this equipment.  I would contact Dremel for a possible replacement under warranty.  They are a reputable company.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

on your external speed controllers, do they have a rotary speed dial with 0 to 5 or 6 printed on the controller face? i presume you played with the dial for different speeds but just got high speed only, correct?

forgot to add this link on the specs of your Dremel tool. https://us.dremel.com/en_US/products/-/show-product/tools/100-series-rotary-tool

Dremel 100 used with a Motor Speed Controller
Posted by JoelR1225 on Sunday, July 25, 2021 2:58 PM

I rejoined the hobby a few years back and when I was a teen I had a basic single speed Dremel rotary tool and a Dremel motor speed controller.  I recently purchased a Dremel 100 single speed tool and also a universal motor speed controller.  Although the Dremel works setup with the speed controller it will not go to anything but the highest speed.  I thought at first it was the extension cord and tried with plugged directly in the socket and same problem.  Then I pulled out my 40-year old Dremel speed controller and it worked but had that same issue of not go to anything but the highest speed.  It definitely did not have this problem when I was younger.  I do not have my old Dremel tool, but I have to assume that the issue is with the tool not working with a speed controller but not sure and would appreciate any suggestions, ideas or other rotary tools (Dremel or other brand) that would work with a speed controller.  Thank you in advance for any and all help.
