Anyone use Minwax Polycrylic?

It's specific to use over acrylics.  If I rattle can, I use MM Ultra Gloss.  However it's not compatible over acrylics.  Even in thin coats all the hobby clears are either not compatible with acrylics or are not durable and easily scratch off.

i have not used Minwax acryiic glosscoats, but I have used Rustoleum acrylic glosscoats, both gloss and matt.  They seem to be compatible with all the paints I use.  It goes on pretty thick and im my opinion is nut quite as glossy as Testors Glosscoat.

That's why I wouldn't use it, personally.  I like Minwax products for my woodworking projects, including their clear sealers.  But I'd use products made for modeling, or, as an exception to that guideline, Future.

Your mileage may vary, as they say.

I'm curious now and will ask my friends who are car modelers about what they prefer to use as a gloss coat in their builds.

I have a friend who uses Miniwax clear (not sure which one)and he's had great luck with it.  He sprays craft acrylics and then applies the clear.  He builds aircraft and mainly civil airliners with glossy finishes and his models shine in the pictures that he sends to me.

Future on cars hasn't worked well for me.  Not punishable or glossy enough.

 

I have read about using Future for years and you are the first person who has had issues with it.

Finding a durable clear that goes over acrylics is TOUGH!  Minwax polyurethane spray works well BUT it yellows.  Polycrylic doesn't yellow but how does it go down and is it tough enough for model car bodies? Where I paint precludes the ability to use acquire, enamels etc. 

Like Bill and many others, I use Future, too.  It's too bad it doesn't work for you for cars.

I wouldn't use Minwax on models, though.  Testors, Tamiya, AK (as someone mentioned), and other hobby suppliers all make gloss products specifically for use in scale modeling, and you might want to consider those.

Also, have a look in the Cars forum-this topic may have come up in the specific context of producing a showroom finish.
