I need paint
Posted by PaintsWithBrush on Thursday, November 11, 2021 12:01 PM

I am in need of a rattle can of Enamal Model Master 1911 Olive Drab FS34087 to complete a build of an early 70's 1/32 Revell Germany issue Bell Huey Cobra. I thought my can had enough to do the job, but fell short. Just 1/4 can should finish it off. All I've been able to find so far are the little jars, and I don't feel that's going to match. The texture from the can and a paint brush are never going to match up.

Good luck on finding a can, seeing how Model Master paints have been discontinued.
Have you tried a web search to see if anybody still has some of those rattle cans left for sale?

I'm going to check the ads in the back of the magazine, but yeah, it's going to be an uphill quest.

Good luck, but don't be surprised at the prices that you'll see.

Yeah I googled for the Model Master stuff, and there are some places wanting way too much for those little cans.

Testors also makes a rattle can of plain old Olive Drab. Personally I'd get that and repaint the whole chopper With it.

That's something you might want to consider, a complete epaint.  I could suggest a paint job that would indicate a swap of sections with maybe a slightly differeny color, say faded from sitting around while being scavenged for parts for other aircraft.  It would hardly be a unknown practice.  You could even show part of another huey's personal markings.

just a thought

Or... you could make it a Christmas decorated huey that would have been used to transport some presents to a firebase or some other lonely place.  The Army did this with their Small Caribou transport aircraft.  They would paint Chrisrmas lights, Santa in a sleigh, Rudolph, or some other Christmas themed paint job.  Sometimes they would transport USO performers to a base, or out of the way post.

what do you think?  It could solve your color problem.

PaintsWithBrushes,

I believe that when someone does something nice for you, you should then turn around and pay it forward to someone else.  On this forum site Mongoose came to my assistance by offering me a L.C.T. model kit that I wanted to build for a veteran's son and grandson.  Well, I'd like to help you out.  When Testors announced that they were discontinuing some of their model paints, I went to two local Hobby Lobby stores and bought out their Model Master spray paints and jars.  I have one can of FS34087 Olive Drab, I thought that I might have two but I could only find one, and you are welcomed to it to finish your Huey project.  I'm in Wisconsin so let's work out the details so that you can get back to the bench.

With olive drab, it's hard to go wrong, as there were so many shades and variations of it.  A recent article in FSM defined about 50 different "olive drabs" that were officially used by the military.  Any of them would be "correct" for your application.

I've been preparing myself for that possibility, that's why I have not removed the masking I did on the canopy and engine bay.

You are welcomed to the whole can, and if I find anymore I'll send them along.  How do I get in contact with you to get your mailing address?

PWB.... Click on his name at the top of one of his posts.  That takes you to his profile, you'll see a line on the Right side " private message".

I just looked at his profile and it looks like his PM feature is not turned on.
