waterbase vs. oil vs. lacquer etc.

Hi all. It's been a little while. Winter is here and its time to build some models.

So my question has to do with pin washes, sludge washes  etc. and whats  proper to go underneath them. Will Tamiya clear gloss hold up to an artists oils wash and what do I need to use as a solvent for the artists oils. I believe the Tamiya clear gloss is a lacquer but I am not sure as the writing is all japanese.

   thank you, Neal

As a General rule , you want to use a enamel wash over acrylic and acrylic was over enamel; That being said, artist oil thinned with mineral spirites should work fine over tamiya clear or any other tamiya acrylic or acrylic lacquer. HTH
