TB,
Well, it's not really about acceptance, it's just there. It's up to the parents to provide guidance to their kids to make the right choices.
As someone who does like Japanese anime, I have noticed an uptick in the sexy underage girly figure market. It has always been there, but there is definitely more as mainsrteam products these days.
When it comes to what is considered morally acceptable, it's all about POV. Some Italian colllege kids I talked with said we Americans were kind of funny in how we act prudish yet love our violence and "adult entertainment". It made me think about our culture, and yeah, they had a point.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
Oh, Bill:
It's not a Morality thing. I am just surprised that parents as a whole seem to accept this in such a Blase' way. When I was a smaller dude I remember my family LadyFolk complaining about lil Sis's barbies. Not one cpmplaint about the Sci-Fi or Anime females-Go figure!
Hi ED!
Yeah, now that you mention it, My LIBRARY has a whole section devoted to Manga.
I've been ebating getting that one but I have not done a all white model in some time and would have to find out how to make sure the paint doesn't yellow or otherwise go bad in the future.
I agree with John. Not a fan, but, some of them are "cute".
I was a Speed Racer fan too. Funny that should come up as my wife bought me the Polar Lights kit of the Mach 5 for Christmas. Only gave it a quick look as I have a lot on the bench right now. Looks like a very nice kit.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
I was a big Speed Racer fan back in the day. I appreciate anime, just not into it.
Thanks,
John
I think the whole anime thing started when just after the Second World War the Japanese imported a bunch of foreign cartoons including Betty Boop. The big head and huge eyes of modern anime were strongly influenced by Betty.

Way to rain on someones parade, TB. I turned my morality police shield in a ways back, as I was annoying.
Bill
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
It's just a Japan thing TB. Different culture, different standards.
But yeah the goth Lolita kiddie pron thing bothers me too. It just proves I am not 100% Japanese - I lack that gene. Must be all the American hot dogs and apple pie I have consumed! But I just steer away from that stuff and focus on the mecha, which is what I like.
Speaking of which:

This is a new kit announced by the Goodsmile Company, the same guys who did the ED-209 model and upcoming Aliens Powerloader. The Madox-01 was from one of my favorite OAVs in the late 1980s, big eyes and all. But no goth Lolita stuff in that one!
As far back as I remember first running into Japanese annimation back in the late 60s, say... Tobor the 8th Man, Gigantor and a few others the eyes have always been larger than real life. Maybe this is because people say the eyes are the key to the soul, I don't know. By the time I got to Okinawa in late 1979 I was very clear that was they way the characters were going to be drawn for some time. Something to get used to.
Tanker-Builder Plus, Besides the eyes the female figures would make the early " Barbies" Blush. Ya know wherewith I speak! My question is why?
Plus, Besides the eyes the female figures would make the early " Barbies" Blush. Ya know wherewith I speak! My question is why?
Why? Because you are looking at them with American Old Phart eyes!
Anime is extremely popular in the Orient, especially in Japan. Anime is not just figures. Popular books, TV programs, movies. The Japanese Anime culture has spilled into the American teen -- go to the local Barnes & Noble and check their Manga 'comic' books. They're a far cry from the Archie & Veronica comics you grew up with.
The anime culture spills into more traditional modeling genre's; go search for 'Arpeggio of Blue Steel' or 'Girls und Panzer' among others. The Platz kitty cats are also a prime example of the way things go.
I wonder;
I went to my favorite Flea establishment Saturday. Not to shop, but visit friends and check out the vendors, and increase my exercise. There's a new Vendor, she has Anime and Gundam all over the place. Now is it me?
I was looking at some of the figure kits. If they're eyes got any bigger, they would look like aliens. And the ladies? C'mon Put some clothes on them. This near naked look for possibly An American Teen I find puzzling.
