Partial Ship Model?
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Monday, August 1, 2022 5:38 PM

Yeah!

Why do the whole thing when You may only be interested in the back third of the ship! Up Front on a Laker is not that interesting Except the Wheelhouse, and on the newer ones, even that is kinda MEH! Now just think, You can keep your love of ships smaller than a 1/350 Enterprise carrier Model, and yet get plenty of ooohs and aaahs.

Think about this. How about a model of the Crews quarters and the Engineering spaces and maybe one Cargo Hold of a particular ship? There are quite a few you can choose from that carried and carry all kinds of carge And, you get that urge to super detail to your hearts content. . . .

Why a LAKER ? Well, it's simple, Can you build a slightly Oblong Box with a rounded end? And you don't even have to worry about Prop or Rudder UNLESS you want larger than H.O. Scale! Why ? at H.O . Scale the prop and Rudder are not seen. But there's plenty of good old flat Bottom and side to put clear panels in so you can see the inside!.

I have built two laker models as half hull ships.  Usually half hulls are done for sailing yachts with no masts or rigging.  But I wanted to hang these on the wall of my office, so I did them as half hulls mounted on a nice piece of oak plywood, with a hanger hook on back.

I did the whaleback John Ericksson and the Edmond Fitzgerald.  The Fitz is on the wall right to my right (retired now, in my den).

Eugene Rowe

Pics please!

I'm trying.  Yesterday I took a quicky with my cellphone, but I cannot get my phone connected to my computer.  Gave up today, and decided to bite bullet and use good camera here in den.  Battery dead!  When the battery gets a decent charge I will take picture.

Okay, got it.  Didn't use tripod, did use flash, so it isn't a great shot, but shows the idea.  The model was from AJ Fisher plans.
