Eugene!

 I found out through my sources years ago, that Aurora tried a new process. They did both a Prototype with a Hard pressure Blow mold and a straight forward Injection Mold on that large hull. The injection Mold worked, but, it had to be slowed to seventy units per hour to come out clean, It had to do with the antiquated cooling systems they had.

      The "Super-Blow", although not well recieved, could turn out about one hundred an hour, It required modifying the existing molds and they just said,"No". Lindberg leased the molds from the Super-Blow, But they didn't catch the error till they had done an inaugeral run of four thousand! It was recieved well by the R.C. community, that till that time, didn't have a hull that size that could be built box stock or modified to Resemble the much Respected Rybovich 48' Sports-Fisherman. Rybovich Boats, were still being built one at a time in wood in Florida near my home as a Child.

So TB, do you want the tuna clipper or not? After all, all it's going to cost you is a photo at some time in the future.......

Eugene;

      Have you ever heard of Hen's Teeth. They don't have them, I don't think. Just rough edges on their beaks (Poor Things). Anyway, I have seen it between  prices way over what the 1/350?-1/200? Iowa class Battleship costs with All the upgrade sets. No can afford! And the lowest price was $250.00, which fo me is four tanks of gas at today's prices!

Hey TB. I have an old kit of a Gulf Star tuna clipper by Clear Ware. The box is cactus, the main deck is missing and the two halves of the hull have been glued together. There may also be other minor bits missing, but I don't think so. It's yours if you want it. Shouldn't be too difficult to pack it up and send it and I will cover the cost of postage. BUT! There's always a 'but' .......... I want to see a photo posted on the FSM website when it's done. Do you accept the challenge Monsieur?

Hi Eugene!

    Oh! A big surprise on that one. I built at least five for clients. It was available in California for a time and I have seen some around here. I won't buy one for me though. They cost to much. Plus it has a unique flaw.

   Just behind the Aft square(Rectangular?)Port there is a vent that is hull colored. But, It was clearly molded on the inside and not on the outside like it should have been. Almost like they accidently built the molds in reverse! It made a great R.C. Model just like the Constellation did ! Did you know the Constellation in it's first release gave you instructions for construction of a cabin interior in Cardboars and construction paper?

    I'll bet most folks didn't know that. My Nine year old self sure as heck built it too! Oh, That boat wound up being a LINDBERG release!

Here is a prototype Chris Craft fishing boat that Aurora was considering but concerns about it's commerical viability and projected high tooling costs Led to it being rejected.

A Rare Kit, What to Do?

Hi Ya'll;

         Listen, have you ever found yourself in that never ending Mobius Strip of searching out a model you really liked the looks of, had fun building and remember well! Well, I had, and have that going on for me. The model, The Aurora Wheeler Cruiser.! I have to say, from building BOTH of LINDBERG'S Large Chris Craft models(R.C.Suitable)(Weren't to bad, Flaws considering). Lived in Miami Beach at the time, so had plenty of actual boats for referrence!

         Now the Wheeler was a different kettle of fish! I had been living in San Francisco at the time and was taking some time with the family. The kids gave me this kit for my Birthday(Special reason one.) It was the first time I had seen a Wheeler in ANY scale(Special reason two) It was also a rendition of the Wheeler Express 55' Motor Cruiser. Plentiful around Grand Banks and othr boats of that ilk. Mainly bought by semi, well off Boaters to live out their retirement on.

         I have often wondered if Aurora even did the molds! Why! Well, the first Color molded White hull and waterline with White Boot stripe and Green bottom.( Special Reason three) I didn't see two color again or such, until my purchase of the Perkasa, MTB by Hasegawa? in the Eighties. It was molded in a strange almost Grey/Green with a Dark red bottom,(almost Maroon)!

         Well, I was hooked by this model and had to leave the country on my job for a while. When I arrived home the Family had moved back home to Arkansas, Which I had expected. The Wheeler got lost in the move. Fast forward to ten years ago. I found one in the Want and For Sale ads in F.S.M., Why? A great many Hobby Shops I checked didn't recall the kit or if they had even seen one. Well, that was a fiasco because the lister wouldn't sell the kit to me because parts were missing. I told him of my history and he said let him think about it. The price was not a stumbling block! Called to speak about it only to be informed by an employee he had sold it the day after I had spoken to him.

         Fast, fast Forward. Two years ago I Built my Wheeler! Because of one photo I had , I did her out out a solid block of Basswood. Her hull was very shapely and kind to the eye and hands. The Cabin sides were Real skived Mahogany and the roof, again Basswood. Mahogany Flybridge window Frames. And a Feature the Plastic one didn't have, A fully detailed cabin and paired engine room interior!

      I still want that Plastic one though .When I can find it at a price I can afford, Damaged or Not, I want one!
