As I previously Posted, I was given this model as a gift. Now funny thing Here. The Decals are almost too small for me to see clearly. Yup, There's Decals for a myriad of stuff, and most is very small. I wonder if the Scale(1/144) has anything do do with that!
The Detail also. One, the W/T/ Bulkheads(Walls to you Landlubbers) have detail on them so finely rendered, You have to use a Magnifier to detail paint them, Much less see it! The Second point is that a lot of the painting notes are scrambled in with the Decal and Assembly diagrams, so it is an adventure to figure out the bulkhead and side walls colors. The callout, I finally determined, was for Light Grey
It is actually better to use the Box cover for the guide to coloration. It might be wrong for Sales sake, But it also makes the interior(If you aren't into lighting) much easier to see. Therein lies another problem. Make sure your paint is very thin but fairly color intensive. Or it will look like you painted with washes!
According to the Box-cover everything is shades of grey, tan, silver, and red, with some green and black mixed in for fun. Make the black( like the Batteries) Midnight Blue(Non-Metallic) instead. Otherwise you'll not see the top details. The Pale greens on the Engines and Electrical equipment make Cockpit green(Light) I would say everything else that's not White, except The W/T bulkheads make various shades of Ecru(Light Tans) and vary the shades. Rust or Pale Terra Cotta for the Battery and Engine decks. The decks too, have very fine Metal texture as if they are supposed to be Non-Skid or Metal grating. A brownish Light Rust for the remaining decks
I would say this is the most finely detailed Revell item I have ever seen. The U-47 was coarse by comparison, but for me, a lot of fun to build.
