An Old School Disasterous way to remove parts. Magnify the horror!

I Know! This is Silly, and Destructive too!

What I want any of you who wish to do is step back in time. Way back to when I was a wee beginning Model builder. let's see, that would be around 1950! Hey, I spent a whole 59 cents for a model. Scale? Who cares, (Besides, What's that?) I got a model of a car. ( I think it was an old Gowland and Gowland Highway Pioneer kit)

I was only allowed a small file and a pocket knife!( So spin them parts in place to make them come of the SprueTree)! Now find an old kit or even a new kit and do this with a part or parts where this won't matter.

Take the rest off with a Sprue Cutter or fine Zona saw. See the difference? It is obvious to the naked eye. Now look at the twisted part, with a magnifier. Whatta surprise that mess is on the part, right? Thank goodness for learning and getting the RIGHT tool! Remember this the next time you build! We have actually come a long way!

I used my dads Swiss Army Knife, or just twisted them off.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

A young child and their first Exacto Razor Knife is a life lesson in the making.

I remember not only the twisting off the sprue but also not removing the seam lines or ejector pin raised areas and later wondering why the model didn't quite fit right (smile).

When I first started getting into the hobby I’d always twist wheels of the sprue but not for any other part. My problem was being a little too aggressive with sanding.
