Diorama snow
Posted by Bocks Suv on Friday, December 16, 2022 12:49 PM

6 years ago I made a 1/35 Merkava tank diorama that had a light dusting of snow on the tank and road. It was super subtle with some areas of snow build-up fading into wisps of blown snow. It came out better than I thought but Ive forgotten how I applied the snow and cant find the article about the method...kosher salt pulversized in a blender. But how can I apply it or seal it without it looking like vanilla icing or stupidly shiny or showing signs of glue residue. This is for a 172 Stalingrad dio with a light layer of snow on the ground. Any tips or links would be great. Thx.

I like microballons set in white glue.

Thanks,

John

Many white particles can be used with thinned white glue.  White flour, talcum powder, crushed  and milled styrofoam, gypsum.  Many hobby shops carry a white powder for snow.

The thinning ratio is important.  I thin about four to one water:glue, and let it dry for a couple of minutes before dusting it on.  There will be excess powder on top. Blow it off with mouth or fan afer 12 to 24 hours.
