I am presently building a scratch -built Winnebago and it is quite large ,what is the equation to convert inches to feet?
Hi,
I guess it all depends on whose "inches" and whose "feet" you are talking about. At full scale 1 "inch" equals 1 "foot", which hasn't changed eventhough the new "King" (Charles) probably has bigger feet than the former Queen (Elizabeth II).
At different scales just multiply an inch by the scale factor, and then divide by twelve to get feet. Hence at 1/24th scale 1 real inch would equal 1 x "24" x "12" = 2 scale feet, etc
As there are 12 inches in 1 foot, simply divide inches by 12.
Ok thanks!
So for 1/25 scale and the dimensions are 15 inches long,4 75 inches wide and 7 inches high what would that be in feet for a full sized Winnie?
Google Frank Krenshaw ScaleCalc 2.5 a downloadable widget that takes all the whip out of all sorts of calculations.
Which would give a a 25th scale 15" as a 1:1 31' 4"

Thank you ,!it's been an epic build!

Multiply dimensions of the model in inches by 25 (the denominator of the scale fraction) to get the dimensions of the full-size article in inches, then divide those measurements by 12 to get feet.
There will be a quiz on scales and conversions tomorrow. Bring a #2 pencil and a Big Chief tablet.
For future projects, get yourself an architect's scale. Basically a triangular looking ruler with various scales of inches to scale length measurements. Common scales included are 1/4, 1/2, 1/10, etc. One end has an actual inch broken down into scale length, and the rest of that edge has the scale length. With the ruler being in a triangular configuration, it is usually a 1/1 actual side, plus five different other scales.

Good idea ,thanks!
If anyone needs metric from inch dimensions, to convert inches to millimetres the conversion is one inch equals 25.4 mm.
Naturally to do this conversion inches would need to be expressed as a decimal dimension.
Eg. one and three eights would need expressing as 1.375.
Good Lord; the responses make me dizzy. 1"= 1/12'.
