I hope everyone has a safe, fun filled holiday weekend, remembering all that we have to be so grateful for. Be careful as you travel at such a busy time, be watchful, there could be another driver like me out there. ):>(

Best wishes

Hi!

Hey you there! yeah you! Have a safe an happy memorial Day weekend.Watch out for Greg though, okay? LOL. Hey, guys and Ladies, do remember, Please, why it's called Memorial Day. And say a silent prayer first thing, for those that payed the final price and those who struggle to this day with their wounds. They made it possible for us and our kiddins to be here. T.B.

Here's hoping everyone out there in FSM land has a happy Memorial Day. Remember those who made it possible.

"Happy Memorial Day" is an oxymoron. Memorial Day is a day for honoring those who have DIED in service to the nation. It's not just another three-day weekend and there's nothing "happy" about it. Please try to remember this while enjoying your picnic or hitting the malls for the sales.

Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that those of us who remain may live free and "be happy".

Space Ranger - Good point.

Brandon K - Good counterpoint.

What I take away from this is that we should appreciate the sacrifices made by others for us, and live in such a way as to make their sacrifice worth it.  So BBQs and apple pie are OK.

To paraphrase The Shoveler from The Mystery Men: "Today, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, defeating evil using the sword of justice.  And the hammer of not bickering."

Exactly. I'm sure that most here don't happily celebrate on the anniversary date of a loved ones death. This is the Nation's way of commemorating our war dead. Take a moment or longer to remember those who have fallen in wartime serving this great nation of ours.

Ranger-

I had the intention to wish everyone a good Memorial Day, you saw fit to step all over my brief post with your assessment of it. I was not seeking correction, rebuttal or anyone's sage and insightful comments. I served 5 years active, 22 reserve, Viet Nam era pilot. Many of my fellow service members that I knew personally left their blood there, losing their lives on someone else's land.

I do have an understanding of what Memorial Day stands for, it can be both a time for somber reflection and gratitude, also appreciating the time, all the while showing respect for those that gave it all. Tomorrow I'll raise my glass to salute the ones we lost, but I'll also make it a good day by enjoying the freedom, and way of life, they fought to preserve for us.

You could have just posted your own message, no need to walk on mine. You have your Memorial Day as you wish, I'll have mine.

Hi, John -

Thanks for the "thanks." My years of service were a great personal honor, among the most meaningful times of my life.

Military aircraft flown: H-34, UH-1, L-19, L-20, C-47, OV-1, CH-47, CH-54 and U-21.

For 33 years in civilian life, 727, 707, 757, DC-10, 747 and 747-400.

Mandatory retirement at age 60, 22 years ago. Damn that calendar.

Best regards.

Patrick
