Why?
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Thursday, June 15, 2023 7:53 AM

I was doing inventory the other day.

I noticed this. I have just about every personal Luxury jet and prop plane ever to hit the market. Scales all over the place and yet not one really modern one. How about the Mfgrs. listen and give us some say1/48 models of those great planes

The Lear was nice and some of the others. But like one Mfgr. Why didn't they find a way to show the insides? What good is all that work if the lookers on can't see it? AT least Monogram got that right on the Piper-Tri pacer and the Cessna 180 Float Plane. Nevermind the politically incorrect figures and Animals. Didn't need them anyway! Bring them back without the animals!

How  about a larger Cherokee or Cessna Biz Jet? C'mon mfgrs. Don't let Otaki, Hasegawa or Tamiya get you on this too! That little Honda is a Jewel for sure. As is my Multi media   Beechcraft Super 18 9 Sky King's "SongBird", Us Army's Vip Plane."The Bamboo Bomber" and you can see through the plastic windows and door openings to those great interiors. You can even see the instrument panel clearly on the Beech! Plus there are ones flying now like the C/47-D.C.3 with Turbo Power!

I love the choppers they have and how well you Can see the innards. But come on Guys, I don't have a shelf big enough to house the "Marine One" in 1/24 or 1/32 size!. 1/48 is pushing it as it is!

I too value civil aircraft, but I believe they do not sell all that well.

Seems the problem is, they do not shoot bullets nor carry bombs!   I have been to contests where the catagories fpr aircraft were which war they were for, and no Civil catagory,  They wanted my civel aircraft to go in the Misc catagory, with other weird things.

Air Tractors, give me AT kits. They are so flexible in the configurations.

I like the civil planes as well - and the military transport versions.  I would love a 148 Air Tractor crop duster.  I'm hoping MACO does it as the put out the Cmelak which I have in the stash.

I think Revell represents airliners pretty well.  Hasegawa, Zvezda, BPK, A-Model all do some nice civilian kits

Thanks,

John

Hasegawa did a trio of business jets in 1/48 back in the 90's. A Lear, Cessna Citation, and a Dassault Falcon. They haven't re popped them numerous times, so my guess is that they didn't sell too well.

Interesting point! The scales would have to be a bit big to show the detail, but it would be neat to see some cut-away kits of airliners with classic interior designs, from the years when air travel was really swanky. The upper deck lounge on a Pan Am 747 and the lower deck lounge on the PSA L-1011 would be fun to model, especially with the retro decor.

Bandai made 1/48 Cherokees, IIRC> I had one but don't recall the scale.

I'd love to see a 1/48 or 1/32 Pilatus PC-12.  They could even make a kit with an option for building it as a U-28, which would also attract purely military builders.  A Cirrus SF50 in either scale would be cool too.  I have a pretty intimate knowledge of both aircraft, so they would be fun builds.

My main source for light planes is Minicraft.  These are the planes I could buy if I ever thought I could fly again.

Their early releases were pretty basic, but the recent ones were great.  The one that disapointed me was the 172 that had a great engine, but there was not enough remaining room for enough weight to keep the nose down.  You had a choice: Leave the engine out or put a strut under the tail.  I wonder if I can infuse enough CA to make a tail tiedown rope to support the tail.
