placing LED Lighting in models
Posted by Doc Hu on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 4:36 PM

Hi all.

It's been a while since I posted anything in the forums but I just ran across an issue that I can't find a direct answer to.. Can I use super glue to hold on LED lighting in place on a ship/sci-fi model kit ?

I have used it on a lighting kit for TOS Enterprise starship and few of them actually work. Before I go back and try to correct the issue I would like to know what the issue is...

Thanks.

Could it be that you glued the connections to the kit and they shorted out?

You could try gluing only the insulated wires in and maybe prop us the leds a little away from the glue, and make sure they have no chance to cross connect and short out.

Check to make sure they are free and then power them up to make sure they are working.

Thanks for the suggestion I will try and loosen up some of the LED's and see if they work.

It's worth a shot,,,,

Hello!

It's almost obvious to say the LEDs should be tested to see if they all work before glueing everything.

And if they work, you could immerse everything in Super Glue and it still should be working. Glueing the wires and LEDs with it should be no problem at all, it's just that repairing anything afterwards gets really hard.

Here's my rig, I also used super glue here:

Hope it helps, good luck with your lighting and have a nice day

Hi Pawel,

I've come to the same conclusion and am learing a great deal. I think that I may need to try and salvage what works and go from there. I may end up purchasing a replacement lighting kit.  I know that there has been some issues with this particular kit but that was years ago aanad I'd hoped the issues have been resolved. You can see my post in the Sci-Fy forum.

Thanks again ans stay well.
