As a former pilot i have learned the hard way my modeling requires a'pre-fliight checklist. In the beginning of re-entering modeling i took things at face value and learned the hard way i can't do that. Now as i work on parts and move onto the next step I have learned first to check my workspace for open paint bottles and or ask myself if this tiny part needs a special container for safe keeping. Then i will limit my stupid errors like knocking over a bottle or breathing too hard and blowing away that tiny part. Also working with superglue requires me to be extra careful. I have ruined a nice paint finish when using superglue.
Applies to modeling, but going back to my working days, whenever I started rushing or dropping things and the like,I would always say to myself,"Stop being Nervous and Jerky" which meant to take a step back, evaluate, and ow down
