Yep it has to be Tamiya. Haseqawa runs a very very close second. Unfortunately Tamiya aren't releasing enough racing/rallying car kits anymore.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]KALFAKISBow [bow]......neat idea your poll............
i voted Monogram....though others are better engineered i know..........Monogram has been there for a long time and they've always been reliable with subjects that's always captured my interest.......Big Smile [:D].......however..............though new to the scene.......i believe Accurate Minatures would be the one i'd have voted for though it would have been a struggle with Monogram there, too.
....don't think i'll ever be an expert but, i like to chop and cut and modify and add-on and photo-etch...Evil [}:)]....etc. so any kit i get my hands on i'm gonna change and/or add some aftermarket do-dad to accuratize it.....if i'm in the mood or the kit can take the punishment but, i'll........find a way to replicate something that really flew..........and Monogram and Accurate Miniatures were/are the fairest priced and in my faveourite scale........
and i love to chop up Revell kits.........Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]tsk tsk
it's a hobby of hysterical proportions and historical significance............
happy modelling y'all..................

I would never choose a kit solely on the brand. Every manufacturer has produced both kits worth buying and the occasional dog. Some may be more consistantly high quality, but that's no gaurantee. Many many thanks to all the people who write up and post online reviews of model kits.

I do, however, boycott Hasegawa. It's been twelve years since I built an airplane model, and I'm still PO'ed at having to buy a separate kit just to get some bloody sidewinders.

This is actually tough. I chose Tamiya for their detail and overall fit. However, Dragon is better in value, price and lately, number of new subjects.

I look for quality and detail first, and price second. If there are two kits identical in quality, I'll buy the cheaper one, but I'm afraid some of the manufacturers on that list leave a lot to be desired. To be honest these days there is no excuse for any major manufacturer producing an inaccurate or ill fitting kit

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

My dear fellow modellers,
I see that most of you believe that TAMIYA it is the brand, most to be trusted blindly.
We cannot overlook many excellent models of HASEGAWA, Revel and Monogram, that both play big role in the history of plastic modelling and their philosophy is also true modelling.

Please allow me not to say the name of my most preferable brand.
Something anyhow, I can say as my opinion, it is that precision and scholastic detail it is appreciated but not all the way the most important. I find much more important the “journey” we take, into building a certain kit.

It is like a well-known Greek poem, said: it is not that important to arrive to ITHACA than the journey on the way to ITHACA (the Homeric Odyssey would never have been known if the Ulysses journey was only a few days long and very dull).
Some times perfection is a heavy load on the building bench. The “modelling journey” must be cool and pleasant, with nice and relaxed moment, admiring what we can do with our creativity and ideas, always with modesty and sharing what we love with the other fellow modellers.

That is why I love building models and I am happy to be with modellers.
They know what I know, they feel what I feel, … we understand each other, we share the same experiences.
Some times I feel regret for the people buying ready built models, like the die casts. They miss the journey, the feeling ……
Living in the age of fast food anyhow, unfortunately fast entertainment had to happen too!

So after all, I would choose blindly the brand that would take me to a pleasant journey, from the moment I look to it’s nice box art, the tidy and well arranged contence, the good assembly instructions, the good and trouble free fit of parts, the clever brake down of the model in parts, and the excellent scale appearance of the finished model.

Now, you may know, what I would blindly trust ……..

Happy modelling, wherever you are my friends!!

Not neccessarily true. Shep Paine created many outstanding models out of the Monogram kits.

This is a no-brainer. Tamiya

However, Hasawega are very good, and Trumpeter is starting to emerge as a real contender, esp with all the new kits.

I prefer cars and planes, and I've tried most manufacturers in 35 years of modeling - and I've found that every Tamiya kit I've opened has never (not once) been found to be defective, short shot, poor fit etc etc.........always perfect fit and accurate (looking) profiles. Good enough for me.
Bloody expensive, though........

Cheers, LeeTree

I voted for Trumpeter cos I'm more of a 'salt dog'; but for aircraft, it would be either Tamiya or Hasegawa, but I would pick Tamiya cos I've done more of them.

I picked Hasegawa because I personaly think they put out a more realistic kit. Tamiya kits are very good but I think they go a little heavy on the engraved panel lines, distracting from a true scale appearance. I really don't buy that many kits from companies on the list because of the subject matter I like best, 1/72 experimental fighters. Too bad Sword wasn't on the list, I'd have picked them.Wink [;)]

Back in the dim dark days all I ever modelled were Tamiya and I guess my preference stays with them. I have never built a Trumpeter or Hasegawa kit so I cannot comment on them but I have done a few Academy and they seem quite good but still not up to the standard of Tamiya. It's just a shame that there is not much on the horizon in the way of new releases from Tamiya in the next year though!

Thanks for the poll KALFAKIS, I found it interesting. Oh, and welcome to the Forums!

I haven't tried kits from all of the companies listed in the poll, so my vote is a little skewed.

However, I've never had a bad Tamiya kit. They were all top notch, even though they were a bit more expensive than the rest.

I do have a few kits from companies I've never tried (like Italieri and Hasegawa) that I look forward to build.

I went with Tamiya simply because they are who I have the most nice experiences with. I have just recently built a few from others and they are a close second.

you should take your results and e-mail them to each of the choices.

I went with Tamiya, but it would be close with Dragon and Academy. There isn't that much difference with their new kits. Price would be an issue in reality though.

Welcome!

Welcome to FSM KALFAKIS.

I chose Tamiya ..... though some other companies are starting to give them a run, they still have the best engineered kits going IMO.

Enjoy the forums !!!!!

I'd actually go with academy. (I like interiors with my armor) I'd go with dragon over tamiya just because of price.

(I voted dragon)

This is a real good poll.

Some considerations would be cost versus quality. A superior modler would want a superior kit. A modler like me, fair, would let Revell/Monogram be the one of choice. But to answer your question as a what if, I must say Tamiya all the way.
