                        i had a little modelling accident about an hour ago and found out something about the "thin" CA glue that i never knew before!! after using the container a couple of times the long narrow dispensing tube became clogged so now i just unscrew the cap and apply it with a syringe and needle. well, i forgot the top was off and was piddling with a cockpit part and accidentally tipped the whole container of CA glue out on my workbench. i nearly glued my fingers to the container as i tried to tip it back up, i grabbed a paper towel and patted the puddle of CA up and chunked it in the garbage can. after everything settled back to normal, about 5 minutes passed when i began noticing smoke rising from the garbage can!!! the paper towel i used to wipe up the CA was smoking!!! i tried to grab it but it was too hot!! i finally fished it out of the can and chunked it out the door!! i had no idea the stuff would spontaneously combust!!! anybody ever had this experience? i was amazed for sure!! LOL. luckily i didnt chunk it in the garbage and leave the house or something!! later.

                        Did you get CA accelerator or possible baking soda on that paper towel?
                        Accelerator will make CA smoke.

                        There could have possibly been something else in your trash can that caused a reaction with the CA. We had a fire in a trailer at the transfer station last week that was caused by two seperate items ( and no I will not name them here Wink [;)] ) that just by chance got near each other. Always a good idea to keep in mind of chemicals that might be in the can before you throw something else in with it. And that concludes todays fire safety lesson. Big Smile [:D]

                        no, this is just labeled "thin" super glue (CA). no accelerator that i know of. its so thin that it acts sorta like tenax-7. the bond is nearly instant!! you have to watch it when glueing 2 parts together and holding it close to where you're glueing as it will wick under your fingers and you want even know it til you try to let go!!

                        i know there was no baking soda on the paper towel but looking at now it looks like it had paint on it where i wiped it off my stir stick and such. if it had paint on it, it more than likely had lacquer thinner on it as i've been priming 2 P-51Ds with alclad gloss black base. also, when i picked the container of CA up to wipe the excess glue off of the outside of the container, i noticed it being warm to the touch too!! it was crazy for a while here.LOL. later.

                        Seroulsly, glad there was no lasting damage. I've never had that happen, but I have had CA get hot but only when hit with accelerator. At least you were still there and caught it. It could have been ugly if youhad tossed the towel and thn gone to eat or something. Guess we should all keep that in mind.

                        Super glue does give off heat when it dries, soaking aup a large amount like that could have eaisily caused the paper towel to burn. Good thing ya caught it. If you had left the room permanently, who knows!?
