Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 19, 2004 12:44 PM
always wanted to do a poll and aside from technique and subject choices......paint seems to be the most perplexing of the issues.........at least it was for me........

It's a toss up for me. I probably use more Tamiya than anything else (which is what I voted for), but I also like Model Master acrylics, Poly Scale, and Citadel.

I mainly use Testors Model Master enamels. I like Tamiya paint but I have a 110 mile round trip to the nearest hobby shop that carries it. I used to make monthly runs down there but with until gas prices come back down I'll settle for Testors which is only 3 miles away. I am starting to dabble in acrylics a little, haven't decided which works best for me yet. Too used to enamels.

Tamiya acrylics when I can get to them and Models Master when I can not.

I've tried them all and I guess I'm just more comfortable with Testors MM. I never cared for acrylics from any company but I understand why they are popular.

I chose Tamiya, cos I have only ever used Tamiya's, Revell's & Humbrol's Paints.

I like the MM enamels for painting details and figs, but for airbrushing i like Tamiya. Its just eaier for me to work with acrylics.

I use acrylics because of the ease of cleaning up. For a long time the only options open to me were were Tamiya acrylics or Humbrol enamals. It didn't take long to move almost completely to Tamiya. Now there are other ranges available but I'll only use those if the colour I need isn't available within the Tamiya acrylic range.

Tamiya acrylics and enamels first, with Gunze Sangyo acrylics and lacquers second.

One suggestion: Please indicate the topic of the poll in the topic title!

MM enamels, primarly due to available color choices. Much less mixing involved.

I use humbrol, I would be willing to try tamiya acrylics, but my LHS only carries full lines in humbrol, testors, and MM. he only carries a limited supply of tamiya and gunze sangyo.

Since I started using an airbrush, it's been exclusively acrylics, so basicaly Tamiya, and more recently, more and more MM Acryl. However, for hand-painting, I use many different brands: MM acryl and enamel, Tamiya, Citadel, Testors, Humbrol, grumbacher, regular watercolours and poster paint, anything almost. I think this poll is kind of liminted in scope, as I doubt that many out there are completely satisfied with just one single brand of paint. I would assume that many, like myself, have found different paints (and by extension different brands) that perform well for certain functions.

you're absolutely right zokissima........having floundered at first, i found the airbrush formula for aeromaster acrylics but, use whatever acrylic colour that would suit what i've a mind to apply it to as the subject required.........rarely do i use enamals/laquers any more except for when applying some metallic coat............
great insight & thanks.........
your comment is why this is such a great forum............Big Smile [:D]

I'm an odd duck, I like Floquil enemels, and have started using DecoArt commercial art acrylics. I also like Tamiya when I can get them and have lost my love affair with Testors after spending insane amounts of money on paint that really sucks in quality.

For me Tamiya, Gunze & Alclad II.

Sorry, didn't vote as it does not allow for multiple choices.

i used tamiya mostly because i used to build almost exclusively tamiya kits. i have now widend my diet, and i enjoy gunze for 2 reasons : they have FS numbers and also they come in small bottles so i can keep costs down. its really difficult to use a whole 23 ML bottle of any color apart from black. besides, gunze acrylics are the same as tamiya acrylics but in different packaging, same goes for most of their paint products.

When I first started modeling,I used pactra paints but since Testors bought them out I have been useing Testors and Humbrol.I liked the pactra better then most due to its consestantcy, when they said flat they ment flat no matter what. Most of the pactras went on with one coat and dryed with no brush marks no matter what. They were a good paint and had the colors that I needed.Digger

I usually use MM Enamels and Acrylics... but after being talked into buying some Vallejo acrylic at the LHS, I think I will start leaning to it...nice paint, easy to clean up.. easy to measure...
