the best of luck to ya upnorth..............when i re-located here i packed a tool box w/ some paints & brushes and a coupla easy peasy kits, just to keep plastics nearby...............

I'm leaving all my built ups, semi completed models and tools here packed up in boxes at my mum's place. I decided I'd travel light at first. If things work out well over there, I'll either send for or come back for my stuff.

I'll probably end up picking up a few smaller 1/72 kits and basic tools over there, just to keep a few juices flowing, but you never know what the future brings till you get there.

If I find I want to come back or move on from there, I'll probably want to keep the load light :-)

Best of luck, Upnorth! I think you've got the right idea in grabbing a few 1/72 kits when you get over there; they'll keep you from getting too rusty. (You have to smell the styrene once in a while!)

Blue ain't too shabby as Canadian beer goes, the "old reliable" of Canadian brews. I'm more of a Kokanee guy myself though. I can't wait to sample some Czech brews, I hear their beer is some of the best in the world.

I have a friend in the city where I will be staying (that's Brno) and she has an uncle who owns a vineyard in that region of the country. I can almost see an all day wine tasting jouney already

On the modeling front. I can't wait to see what the shelf of a Czech hobby shop looks like. We see so much aftermarket resins and PE along with great limited run multimedia kits from Czech companies over here, I can't wait to see what they keep just for themselves. I'm sure there's some things made over there for the hobby that we never see on this side of the Atlantic

When I lived up north and was moving around I did a few OOB and didn't get too attached to them as they would inevitably be left behind.

Sorry to hear this. Heres a suggestion for you if you want to try it. Build some cars, That way your skills are kept up and cars are a lot easier to move around than an airplane. Less dangly parts to worry about snapping off.

I'm not sure dissertations on any level of Canada's political landscape do a lot of good. I wonder how folks like political cartoonists and satirists still make a living, Canadian politics is nearly a complete mockery of itself without anyone taking jabs at it in the media.

I'll keep my eye on Canadian news sites while I'm gone. Honestly, the way the federal politics have been over the past few years is a good part of the reason I'm leaving for a while. I'll probably spoil my ballot on the 28th, I can't with a good concience cast a vote for any of the current Prime Ministerial candidates, so I figure between spoiling the ballot or just not voting at all I'd rather spoil it, that way If I come back sometime soon I can still complain about the government. Something I feel I wouldn't have the right to do if I didn't vote at all.

Take a case of Future Floor Polish with you then trade it for CMR kits and Eduard accessories. There are all sorts of little detail manufacures and kit producers in the Czech Republic. Be careful, have fun - don't lose your head ;o)

J-Hulk: I certainly plan to continue being a regular on the forum. My friend over there has a computer with internet and theres plenty of internet cafes in the city where I'll be. I'll let all you folks know what I find in Czech hobby shops.

Swanny: The Future isn't a bad idea, but considering what the exchange rate between a Canadian dollar and Czech crown is (the one crown being worth a bit over five cents Canadian) I hardly think I'll have to be packing any heavy trading goods to get deals on hobby stuff :-)

The election was June 28. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear on that, as I read my posting there I can see where a misinterpretation could occur .

I believe write-in votes are complete possible for Canadian expats wherever they might be. I'm glad the election did happen before I left so I woudn't have to deal with such things as write-in voting.

Actually, I was suggesting a write-in vote as a way of casting a vote without either giving it to a candidate you don't like. You write on the ballot the name of somebody you would like to hold the office. At least, theoretically, that's what you can do in the U.S. (of course, write-in candidates never win...). Maybe Canadian law is different.
