Easy, where in Anaheim are you staying and will you have a car? I can give you info on two good shops not far from Anaheim.

-It's Omar, but they call me "O".

There's Military Models (might be Military Hobbies) on Taft between the 55 and 57 freeways in Orange, and there's Brookhurst Hobbies on Brookhurst in Garden Grove.

Military has a pretty good book selection but their kit selection is a bit limited. It still has some good kits but I like to go there for the books and decals. I seem to find out of print decals there when I can't find them anywhere else.

Brookhurst is hands down the best shop I've ever been to. Their kit, book and decal selection is amazing. They have loads of details sets and everything that's "hard to find". I've been going there for years and have never been able to look through all the stuff they have in stock. To me it seems to be a bit disorganized for the amount of stock they have, but the staff seems to know where everything's at. All you have to do is ask. It's surprising with as much as they have, they seem to have all the answers right off the top of their heads. And a knowledgeable staff is all that matters, right?

Brookhurst Hobbies is nirvana...

I'm basically an East Coast or South Coast (Texas) type, but that's one thing you've got all over us out there: Great big full service hobby shops. I envy you West Coast modelers that one thing. (And proximity to Edwards AFB and Mojave Airport.) Does the one remaining Squadron Shop in D.C. area still esxist? I don't think so. Can any of you NYC area guys refer me to a FRIENDLY LHS that caters to scale modelers? Like most of us in the area, I not only don't patronize (except in emergency) but have feelings bordering on hatred for the big Manhattan (scale) hobby dealers, and you locals know the two I mean. I had a friend who would take the Long Island Railroad about 60 miles to a LHS out on the island. How can a city than considers itself the enter of civilization (I'm not a native, remember, so I...) not have enough modelers to support a good LHS among its near 9 million population? They open, from time to time, but die for lack of support from the modeling community, who want to mail order. Well, I don't. Give me LHS any day. And an owner that doesn't mind having people drop by, hang out, and swap tips and stories.

Full service hobby shops???????? Not around here. there only a Hobbytown for pretty much the entire county. Lots of railroad stuff though. And when I used to live in SC, San Clemente (small beach townBig Smile [:D]) there was only one hobby shop in a neighboring city. Never went there though.

Ewdwards airforce base is indeed a cool place AFB, on the way to an aircraft museum(and vacation) in Palmsprings we had to drive past it. I have driven by it 4 times, and every time there was something flying around. Saw some very cool stuff including a F-16 getting refuled in the air, and I saw a plane that I have never seen before flying around.Sign - Dots [#dots]

Meanwhile you evny me,and I envy you! Sometimes I wish I lived on the east coast. Its got a lot more interesting history over there. Especially for the CIvil War. I'd love to go to battlefields for a weekend trip. That to me would be fun.

Gee, EasyCo, you get to fight the Orange County traffic!Big Smile [:D] (One of the reasons I moved to Phoenix; looks like we're neighbors as I see you live in Phoenix. Coming to the convention?)

This is on short notice but will you be there on the third Friday of the month (either July or August)? If so, IPMS Orange County holds their meeting within a stone's throw of Knott's Berry Farm, at a place called the Sequoia Conference Center. They welcome visitors and they're a great bunch of guys there! I forget their exact web address, but try www.ipmsusa.org and a link will take you over to IPMS Orange County.

Brookhurst Hobbies is definately worth the trip. I believe they're near the corner of Chapman and Brookhurst. I haven't been down there in a while, traffic all over the Southland is crazy and getting worse by the day! Rush hour seems to last all day anymore.

Jim, I'm a member of that club too! Our web address is www.ocipms.org and it has all kinds of details for our meetings and location and such, as well as quite a repository of photos of members' builds.

EasyCo, there is also a Prestige Hobbies on Beach Blvd and Ball Road inside Hobby City in Anaheim as well. They cater to the diecast cars and Hot Wheels collectors, racing fans, and car modelers more than model builders, but they do have a pretty respectable collection of model kits in their back room. They also have one of the largest consignment racks I've seen where people bring in their models (mostly cars) and sell them on consignment. There have been some interesting old classic kits put on sale there! I oughta know, I worked there for five years!

Steven, Brookhurst Hobbies is indeed on Brookurst Avenue south of Chapman. I shop there as well; it is the only place I can get my 1/72 scale modern Russian Armor from ACE and other Eastern European manufacturers. I go there after work at Knott's Berry Farm, and haven't had much trouble with traffic lately, but then I usually take surface streets.

I've seen you there many times, Duke, but unfortunately, I'm not great at remembering names. I'm the one that's brought in the partially built tornado chase vehicle a couple of times; the one I'm building from Tamiya's Jeep Cherokee. If you're ever in Phoenix during the last Monday of the month, you'll have to get over to IPMS Craig Hewitt. Will you be coming to the IPMS convention here? (If so, look for my NATIONAL INSULATOR ASSOCIATION T-shirt.)

I remember that Tornado Chase vehicle! That was some awesoom e work, even if it was partially built! Unfortunuately, I won't be able to make it to Phoenix this year for the IPMS convention. No time and no ride! Thanks for the invite though, I shall keep it in mind. Let me know if you'll be in town for Orangecon. I'm hoping to be free that night to attend.
