IPMS Contests...

I'm thinking of entering a couple of contests here locally (Virginia IPMS Region 2), but I have NO idea of what judges look for,etc.... The CAPCON Regionals are in Washington DC the 15th and 16th of October. The theme is 1944....and I was just wondering how much time do you usually devote to getting something ready? I have the AMT 1/48 A-20G Havoc that I thought of entering, but since I've never submitted ANYTHING I have no idea where to start. Thanks for helping out!
