Wow! Some -VERY- impressive models there. Did you scratchbuild them yourself?
I'd really like to see some more pics of your vehicle collection - maybe you should create
a "gallery" website showing your creations? Like the "Small-Scale AFV Museum" (http://www.msu.edu/user/storto/afv.htm) but
1/6 rather than 1/76!
You could do with a few more Allied vehicles, though - even if you're not much of an Allied AFV fan, those Tigers and Panthers need something to shoot at :)

I have also become interested in large-scale AFV modelling recently
(not 1/6th though, I just don't have the space :D !) - anything from 1/9 to
1/24. So far I've rebuilt a couple of 1/24 toys (a Sherman and M2 Bradley) and
have rebuilt them as scale models, and have recently bought a 1/9 SdKfz.222 and 1/12
M551 Sheridan to do the same. As you say, this sort of size of model gives huge potential
for "superdetailing".
I have also started scratchbuilding 1/24 WW2 AFVs with the intention of eventually building up a comprehensive
collection (like your one but rather smaller) but have put these to the side for the time being whilst I
concentrate on finishing the Bradley.

Of course I'll still be building 1/72 and 1/35 kits as well (and aircraft)!

I have occasionally tried scratchbuilding large-scale aeroplanes, however the much more
complex shapes of aircraft mean that this is MUCH harder than AFVs and even harder to get
good-looking results. I have built a 1/24 Bristol F.2B Fighter (WW1 2-seat biplane) which is quite impressive
but rather crude in parts, and converted a Guillows P-51D flying balsa model to a static scale
model (with plastic skinning). AFVs are much less frustrating and more enjoyable to scratchbuild though. The only
thing I can't get the hang of is tyres for wheeled vehicles. Other than casting them in resin, I can't think of an
effective way to produce these in large-scale models. Hence all my future 1/24 projects are tracked vehicles at the minute :)

I used to have GI joes and Ultimate Soldiers and those things were a blast, my friends and I would make realyy corny cheesy movies with them, but with your collection you could takeover Paris

It looks like "understanding wife" is a huge understatement. That's quite an impressive display.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

DUDE!!! I'm diggin' that Russkie Sherman! That's super-groovy...

Y'know, if I didn't already spend so much on the stuff that I do, I'd be collecting this stuff as well. And I'd probably be doing exactly what you and all the other 'dolly men' are doing...

Although, there was one fella at a local show who did some dios and had an unusual and interestingly high proportion of Barbie Dolls worked into them... that guy I'm not sure about... Wink [;)]

That is so cool. You've got a collection to be proud of there, that's for sure.

thats very cool !!! its hard to find reliable uni makers and people who can sew , the pays not great , and its allot of work to make scale clothing !

right now i have a guy working on some post war east germans in the first camo pattern used by them after the war "Blumentarn" it was used during the 50's and 60's , i plan on making 3 figures , i made the blumentarn pattern in paint on the computer , and sent the jpg to a friend who used his computer to print it on fabric , and another friend is making all the uni pieces using real pieces ive collected as a guide !
it can get expensive , thank god i have a understanding wife !!

Panzerwerk,
Thats incredible stuff. I bet you get a good audience gathering when you bring stuff out on the yard.

One aspect of 1/6 modeling is that it brings alot of women into modeling. I was talking to a babe who was a kinda softspoken and just sewing away busily by hand with her needle and I asked her "Whatcha makin?" Her reply rather matter-a-factly and with some pride was "A 1/6 scale leather bikini covered with individually linked chain mail" Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Blush [:I]Tongue [:P]

She was indeed putting the chain mail together link by link!!!

Where do you park such huge kits? I think like most, bigger the better. Dragon makes some impressive figures and I wish they had them when I was younger.

I've only seen a few examples of 1/6 but they have been extremly impressive. One day I might be able to branch out into that area but the size and cost are prohibitive. My hat's off to those who work in that media as I've always been in awe of what they can achieve with it. Thumbs Up [tup]

Love your little dolls, Panzer!

LOL! I am SOOO kidding, Panzer! I build all AC but I would so love it if they came out with more large scale models. I'm right with ya on that one. I'd probably only have room for one or two at the most but, man! it would be so worth it!

Best wishes,

Eric

PS. I had a bunch of GI Joe action figures when I was a kid. Action figures, I said, not dolls. :)

I can't recall ever seeing a post on these Forums belitteling any scale of choice, from teeny to huge, but guess I could have missed one. Is your mild rant directed at something that occured on FSM ? Great looking models BTW.

Come to think of it, the largest model tank I've ever seen in person is the 1/10 Leopard 2A5 in the Tamiya Head Office lobby! It's pretty big.
I can only imagine how impressive the 1/6 stuff must be.

They certainly have a great big helping of the "WOW" factor, don't they? [:0] Bloody impressive, I think.
Man, you could cram some serious detail into those things!! So much easier (and harder!) to build than 1/35.......
Plus the added advantage of working in braille scale! No offense intended there.
How many actual operating features do you make on your models?

Cheers, LeeTree

Around here, even though it is a big city, I do not see many examples of large scale models, and I think that has a lot to do with the incredible amount of both time and resources (read: money) to make one of these spectacular models. However, I find it strange that ANY modeler would comment anything otherwise. After all, we can ALL be considered children for partaking in this dangerous game Big Smile [:D]

There's a stigma?
I think they're cooler than all get-out!

I think your rant is a bit unfounded: I've never heard a single derogatory comment about 1/6 modeling. (Well, besides the cost!)
Most of what I hear is words of praise and amazement!
