A road trip for FAME.
3 of us here in Flint, MI have started our own little model club. Tenively called FAME (Flint Area Model Enthusest). We went to the Kalamazoo IMPS show yesterday. We had a great time. Larry being experanced with shows even judged. Joe and I just entered and shopped. Joe won 5 models on their raffle (I won 3). I was the only one to win anything in the show. Larry brought 5, Joe 1, and me 2.
Well the one I was hoping to do well (the F4F), didn't. It's hard when you go up against one Dan Jayne's cutaway birds Any modeler that is in a FSM feature is gonna do well (he won catagory). He did a Bf 109. Not the one in the Sept FSM, but even better.
However, The Bird of Prey not only had a FSM Red & White Photo card. It won OOB in it's catagory. And I have it on good athority that if I had done a wash on it I would have probably got 1st Place. Head judge said it looked "too new". Not to bad for not only my first show, but a model I wasn't even gonna take.
I also got to meet "alby moore", and seen Larry Schramm. Larry won so much stuff he probably needed a truck to take the plaques home. I tried to catch him before he left, but he was gone in a hurry.
Oh yea, and I spent some money on some serious models. And I saw 2 of the new Trumpeter 1/350 Nimitz class carriers. I needed to wipe the drool off my chin when I seen them. WOW
I'm already looking in FSM for the next show that's within reasonable driving distance.
