Model clubs: Savannah, Georgia
Posted by Bones-coa on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 9:30 PM
Modelers, I'm wondering what it takes to start a local model club. The scene around here is kinda dead mainly because of the lack of shops in the area. A shop has opened here in the last year and I'm trying to help him with a model supply. I'd like to get something started that will both help him and give him a reason to continue to support the hobby as well as just trying to spark it. I guess the main thing is to look for people in the area that build models. I'm just not too sure how to do it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Will your LHS offer a display case for built models? Does it have a space set aside for groups to meet? Would the owners be receptive to clubs posting meeting announcements in their windows and at the registers? My LHS offers all of these ameneties, and has a loyal following of gamers, R/C enthusiasts, car modellers, IPMS members and a general interest group. Just a few suggestions. Good luck with your efforts.

The shop is in Pooler and called Extreme Sports and Hobbies. He's not real big into models but that has been changing slowly. He does have SOME MM paints, but not all of them. The more support we can give the better. Also, I learned that there is someone in Savannah that has started a model club. Get in touch with that hobby shop and inquire. They should still have the info. If not, email me and I'lsend it to you. To be honest, I haven't even had a chance to call them myself.

As for the R/C club, it's called S.C.O.R.E. Here's the real kicker: I'm the president of that club. We still race out there but turnout has been a bit low lately.

Anyway, get in touch with them and tell em Dana sent ya. Smile [:)]

You have that awsome ship model museum in Savannah. See if they will let you post some flyers in the gift shop.
